any plans?
Yes. I have several orchestra-related projects in the works. One involves unreleased Sonic Reality orchestral archives. The other has to do more with Symphonic FX for film... Speilberg type stuff. Good for video games, IDM and other styles besides film composing... also sort of George Martin/Beatles type stuff.

I think we may do brass over at Ocean Way at some point. I did some that is okay and we'll release it probably on www.esoundz.com as downloadable ala carte stuff but my partner Alan Sides can record brass that will blow your mind... maybe more expensive but at least top notch for those in search of the best.

Even downloadable brass would interest me. Is that from the project you were working on that didn't end up seeing the light of day?

Yeah. We were part of the way there and it was just incomplete. So ala carte is the way to go on that and then perhaps with the Ocean Way guys we can do the ultimate ultimate thing... With brass it is more hit and miss sometimes than other instruments when it comes to sampling. Keyboard brass can be dreadful. But, it has it's place and it depends on the context, the particular sound and how it is programmed, played etc.

I guess with the United Studios client list (Crosby, Sinatra, Ray Charles), it would be nice to have a bit of that history in a brass library. What intrinsic aspect of the way Alan Sides records instruments is so different: would you say it's experience, mic placement, the way he communicates with the players etc?

All three... not to mention that he owns the largest collection of vintage tube microphones in the world and writes books on mics for Mix magazine. His knowledge and experience recording brass is far beyond anyone I know.

Hey, you know the 20th Century Fox theme you hear at the beginning of Star Wars? The extended one? Alan recorded that. You should hear how it sounds on his speaker system.

Anyway, to have brass recorded by him at Ocean Way would be a dream. But, first thing's first... we're wrapping up Ocean Way Drums in the next month or two.

OK - well before I get prepared to be blown away by Ocean Way Brass some time in the future....I'll be looking out for some of that brass goodness from eSoundz download. ;)
