Anybody tried the Kirk Hunter orchestral libraries (kontakt or giga format) or the Sonic Implants giga stuff with VSampler3?

Just curious - all of this stuff is so expensive I more than can't afford to suffer any kind of serious incompatibility. If you've got any info, I appreciate it!

Funny, I just uninstalled VSampler3 from my system today... not because it wasn't any good, but now that I have both GVI (Giga VSTi) and Kontakt2, well, it seemed redundant.

Admittedly, I didn't do much with VSampler3, except use it mostly as a SF2 player, but I was impressed by its ability to import Halion (the two or three libs I did were spot on) and IIRC, it was also able to import a kontakt lib perfectly (though this was one of the early v.1 libs -- can't say how it'd do with the more recent ones developed for K2).

As far as Giga, I've read enough accounts to conclude that you might do okay, but have to do with a bit of tweaking. Have you looked at Extreme Sample Translator? Good swiss army knife to have in your arsenal, and though I can't promise it'll convert Giga perfectly (It may - I just haven't used it for that myself), the dev keeps improving it and does listen to his customers -- which is more than can be said for VSampler, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the input, flugel - sounds like it would be at least usable with just about any input, as long as I have access to a decent format-converter.

Does VSampler stream?

This could be critical on some of the larger sound-sets that Kontakt would stream (some multi-gig pianos, for example) would cripple a non-streaming sampler. I found that trying to load Rain Piano (700MB or so) into DimPro.

of course it does. why do you people post if you even don't know the app? I had good sucess in coverting Advanced Orchestra Extended and QL Brass and others so far.

I guess you're talking to me, for one (only two of us posted).

OP seems primarily intersted in conversion capability - I shared my experiences with both Halion and Kontakt. Also, let him know that it's probably at the end of its development (or so it seems) and support is practically non-existent (other than from fellow users).

Just the above seems pretty useful to me, and only a bit less cryptic than your response

no, I was referring to dougsyo
who asked if VSampler does stream.

I've used VSampler for a couple of years now. I had an old Akai S1000 and a whole lot of old Akai cd-roms. VSampler does the best job of importing and playing S1000/3000 cd's than any other sampler. This format is also the quickest at "auditioning" sounds, because there is one less step in loading programs. VSampler does a great job with regular Giga instrument files. I've never tried the new 3.0 format and I've had some trouble loading the very large Giga Banks. The VSampler price is a bargain.
