Do you have Live 6 and a KP3? I just use "midi learn". I'm not a mapper either. That's one reason, of many, that I use Live 6 as a host. It's just so easy and intuitive to make music and have fun doing it.

There one on youtube but the guy never shows a good screen shot of what's happening with Live. There's allot of KP3 videos on youtube.

yeah i think i've seen them all, if you get a hankering to make one yourself by all means don't let us hold you back  , btw thanks for the tips.

so Live is my main thing, then the mpc,and the kaosspad will complete. so you are mainly using the kaoss pad to control Live or you mostly use it as a self contained phrase sampler/efx box?

Excellent Slowroom,

You are in for some real inspiring possibilities.

Stale Bread, I have not taken the time to learn my video equipment or youtube. Email that dude off youtube and send him a link to this thread. I bet he'll make it happen, he seems like he wants to be helpful and other than not showing the host, I think he did a good job.

Can you map seperate "bits"of the pad, ie different ares etc ?
I can never seem to get my Remote 25 X-Y pad to work in two directions properly at once.

Also has anyopne here played much with the mini yet ? At that price it seems like it could be great fun. Seems it's only limits are the lack of sampling, and can't be used as a controller or record pad movements ? But if that's it, it seems a steal for almost 100 gbp less ?

Thanks in advance,

Nev

Yes; see my earlier comments in this same thread.

Yes, the KP3 has 8 different patterns that the pad can be set to and each pattern will be divided to send out different CC and note on/off numbers. You an even use it for mixer control on your DAW.

If you only want the effects, and dont need sampling, or intend to use it as a midi control surface, then you do save a fair bit on the mini. But the pad is smaller, has no visual feedback, and you only get two recallable presets. Its far more portable though, and runs off batteries.

It really does depend what you want to do with it, TBH.
also, with the kp3 i can bypass using the rca by using the mic in and headphone out right?
Yeah, you can, but bear in mind that it wont be line level signals from those.
Thanks for the replys whyterabbyt and riley and the info you have both posted earlier in this thread.

How do you find tempo syncing the effects back into your DAW or have you been using this to effect live instruments mostly ?

The mini seems like a good box for live use, or to use to resample it's output and the KP3 more of an all in one.
Are there any other alternatives like this that people here have had experiences with ?

Many thanks as ever,
nev

I'm off to google :D

Never had a k1 but the K2 sends out CC#s but not like the KP3. I'ts pretty limited but it still makes a great XY midi controller and it records motion too....I think, it's been a while since I had one.

sorely tempted. What else can you do over USB, or is it just the sending of samples ? If only the mini sent midi I'd be in heaven.

Sorry for so many questions, I just think it's always better to get an opinion from someone who actually has a unit and has used it. I was thinking about getting a second hand esx1 but this looks much more fun :)

AFAIK, the KP1 and KP2 just did a straightforward X-Y CC thing. The KP3, as mentioned, has 8 different different 'maps' of how CCs are assigned. The details for these are in the PDF for the editor program, btw, but not in the main user manual PDF.

For anyone who wants more info, btw, that main manual is available as a PDF from the Korg website.
