Good question. That's what I'm trying to work out. The touch pad seems to send more than just X-Y info as stated above. But yes I'm sure you could set up your controller to do something similar.

I'm trying to work out the major benefits of the K3 over the KP mini, and apart from the sampling and midi, one of the biggets things to me seems to be the actual visual feedback you get from the K3 ? whyterabbyt or others who have the mini, is this something you find missing in the mini ?

I just love the idea of having such a portable fx box in my pocket

Sorry for so many questions, I just think it's always better to get an opinion from someone who actually has a unit and has used it. I was thinking about getting a second hand esx1 but this looks much more fun

Oh hell, I love Electribes, I encourage to go with the EMX1, you get allot more for your money, you get the MMT Synth engine with infinite synth voices that are tweakable past eternity.. If it's sampler functionality you want then pump the Drums (channel 10) and 5 synth voices over midi to your DAW sampler. Shit!!! Then you have the best of both worlds in a much bigger way.

I would get a EMX before I would a KP3 and you know I love the KP3. Once you start jamming on that EMX arpeggiator while it's all synched with you host and you have a mix of acoustic and electronica sounds all balanced out together...it's heaven. You mess around and create whole new Genres.

Check out this demo tune that is in the old Electribe EA1. I used it's 2 synth parts, Live, Jamstix, Trilogy, Pro53 and FM7.

If you have a keyboard with an XY pad (like the ReMotes) then you can do some of it, albeit with a far smaller and hence less accurate pad, but I cant see how a plain-jane MIDI keyboard can do what a touchpad device could do, even you had some way of controlling the generation of two CCs in as intuitive a manner. A Joystick isnt the same because the movement between position (X1, Y1) and position (X2, Y2) have to include all the points between. Thats not the case for a touchpad device; the transition can be instant with no intermediates.
Yes you can send CCs from knobs or sliders. But then you send MIDI notes from a drumpad, so why not say you can replace a MIDI drumpad with a keyboard? Answer - because they're different. You think about them differently and use them differently. If you cant see how you'd use them differently, then you probably dont need one, but if you want to interact in a slightly different physical manner, then I cant see anything else that behave the way a touchpad device does. And the KP3 is the second-best touchpad device out there. And I cant justify a Lemur.

Erm, not so much, actually. I like having it on the KP3, but not having it isnt that worrisome.

I did have a quick look at the EMX, I just want to try and get away from the PC/Laptop world. I'll have another look at it, that ribbon type controller does fascinate me

I hear what your saying. No I very much like the idea of squiggling my fingers all over the place and recording the outcome, and I couldn't justify the Lemur either, way too expensive:)

If only it had midi out too, it would just be a joy to use with the laptop.

More research and then decision time I guess. I want to get back into having some more hardware control/sounds just to give my damm eyes a break

I guess my problem is, I always feel that I have more control and power in software, so I'm after something a little more quirky portable etc
