thinking of replacing my Delta66 with this. the Delta66 Omni I/O box has a short or something in it. everytime I adjust the monitor pot it crackles and hisses like a bitch. I have tried to fix it by pulling off the pot and blowing canned air in and putting some small amount of oil on the steel part to sort it, but it didn't work. I also really hate the Omni I/O box - it confuses the living shit out of me and every time I go to record I'm incessantly f**king with it trying to get a signal in (there are toggles and switches all over it to route things around both on the box and in software control panel). I just want something simple and good with ASIO and MIDI.

my guitar and mic are all I need as I never even bother with the XP-60 soundsource anymore since I cannot find a reliable way to interact with it (sounddiver that I bought long ago is a humongous pile of dung, as is midiquest, and all the small time roland tools like changeit, tonebank, jvperf99 jvedit99, etc (of which i've regged them all over the years). I guess if I could sort out how to get any of the deep editors to work while my host was running (midiquest was supposed to be able to using midiyoke but I never got that working -- supposed to actually integrate with cakewalk patch lists and never got that working either). sorry for that tangent.

anyway, guitar will go direct in and condenser mic also as this thing has preamps i guess and phantom power which i need. the outputs will support the monitors i have already...

just wonder if anyone has heard anything bad about this? are there intrinsic problems with firewire interfaces on PC? i have an adaptec duoconnect usb2.0/firewire interface card in my box that works ok with all the usb 2.0 stuff i've tried and the 1394 stuff with a camera i borrowed from my friend worked equally well.

this fireone comes with live6 lite which i could later upgrade to full if i wanted (and may do that depending on how i find live6 lite), so that's a bonus. seems like a nice piece of hardware and tascam is a pretty good reputable name. i have a us-428 (i dont use it anymore because it's too big and i dont need all the old stuff i had plugged in etc) that i didn't have any problems with.

the unit will hopefully sit to the left of my keyboard (i have a big keyboard drawer that should accommodate it) and so i could then get nice transport buttons, custom buttons, and that hip jog/shuttle wheel.

before i had looked at a alphatrack and a presonus faderport, but they dont also have sound interface on them so that would require another purchase to get away from my delta66 and into a similar audio interface.

right now midi is running through my sblive in my computer (because the xp-60 has no usb stuff and i find the sblive midi to be very reliable) but if i could get this fireone i could plug the xp-60 into that instead and ditch the sblive and reclaim another interrupt, remove some kruft from the box.

so any advice/comments/feedback on this Tascam FireOne would be great. if you know of any alternatives that fulfill the same needs (audio interface, midi interface, mic pres, guitar direct in, phantom power, transport control and a jogwheel) i'm all ears.

thanks in advance. you guys are my buddies and i know you wont let me make stupid mistakes.

i liked the look of that but was concerned about the audio quality with i being so cheap, i ended up getting the ediol ua101 which is pretty good, very simply to use and good quality mic ins x2, i've not had a problem with it all, always get a good clear signal and latency is good in cubase sx3, i had 2x maudio 3/96's before which where the sound quality was clean had no decent connectivity. Incidentally i doubt you will fix your pot, you'll have to solder a new one in its place, its probably corroded or has a dry solder joint or worse.
laziness is nothing more than resting before you get tired.

thanks stoolz.

i'll check out that UA101.

what kind of latency performance are you getting w/your UA101?

I'd like to hear some user reports...I was just drooling
over it this morning in Sweetwater's latest wishbook.
I really like the looks of it...a little flimsy perhaps
but it looks very well laid out...I like that big honkin'
wheel!! For interfaces these days I'm using a Terratec
Phase88 to record band projects and an M-Audio Mobile-Pre
for live two tracking and personal demos. I like them both
pretty well, but having transport controls would be nice.

Cheers....CL

Has anyone tried this fireone?? Look like I might sell my m-audio firewire solo for it. Need some reports :)

I bought the Fireone a couple of weeks ago but I can't ge t the damn thing to work properly! I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Intel Core 2 E6600 with 2 GB of RAM on a brand new system and all I get out of the thing are short burts of sound (and that's with Ableton Live 6 & FL Studio 6 XXL)! When I play sounds such as synths or brass I get one long never-ending note and the only way to stop it is by hitting the "stop" button. Oddly enough everything else seems to work just fine and I must say that the interface is pretty amazing and remarkably smooth. But all this is useless if I can't play melodies with my midi keyboard. If there is anyone out there who has an idea what this problem is I'd seriously appreciate hearing from them, as I really don't won't to have to return the unit.
Can't avoid Stresss.
