Wow...another vote from me MaliceX. You put my DnB trax to shame  .

I actually finished one which clocks at around 2:30 i believe which is waaaay too short for a DNB track.

But it feels complete.

Anyhow, top notch and i'll be sure to use you as motivation to come up with something better :P

This and that...

farlukar: Remote Commander - Stirring, whirling, whooshing piece of hard candy. I liked the way the drum sound sat in the mix on this.

lubi: In the Chambers at Night - This is what they should have played in the movie "Logan's Run" when it was time to report to Caroussel. The female voice sounds just like the voice in Logan's Run. I have been looking for a crew member since listening.

Patrick9: Barrelhouse - Here we go, a squishy, gooey, Mario Bros. version of the Polka. Rollicking fun. What is the vocal sample? My aging ears couldn't discern what was being said.

Hellbilly: Pollyanna - Nice, somewhat minimalistic approach. Groove is nice, found myself moving to this one.Really liked the build in the middle section.

Echo Voodoo: A Polka List Now - A wonderfully CamelCrushed barrel of beer. My only disappointment is that "Too Fat" didn't make the list of polkas. A true shame.

gag3: 9/11 Roll Out the Barrel - The juxtaposition of Beer Barrel Polka and the 9/11 911 calls was a bit over the top for me. Sorry, it was. Can't say I enjoyed it. But it was definitely creative.

Max el Belga: Mad Midi - Yeah, baby, this is something I can sink my teeth into. Jut loved the piano pulsing under everything else. You obviously were born ready.

Mellotronaut: Why Rosamunde Died - Absolutely loved the panning gymnastics around the minute mark. Had to put on the headphones after hearing it through the speakers. And I really like the way you constructed the last 30 seconds or so.

MaliceX: Ambiguous Decision to Kill - Wonderful lush beginning with a great build to a frenetic and percussive sound at the minute mark. This one really hit the mark for me.

Emerald Tablet: Story - I really dig this Emerald. Your voice is very reminiscent of All Stewart, so much so that I expected to hear you break out into "Year of the Cat" at some point during this.

Then your disappointment should be abated. I did indeed include "Too Fat", though it might be a bit hard to make out with the distortion and my terrible singing. From my submission post:
Beer Barrel , Pennsylvania , Clarinet , Hoop-Dee-Doo , Hu la La , Katinka , Liechtensteiner , Too Fat , Jukebox , Tic Toc , Champagne , Just Another , Ariana , Bridegroom , Budweiser , Canteen , Clarinet , Crackerjack , Cuckoo , Draw One , Gypsy , Heel And Toe , Helena , Nickelodian , Squeeze Box , Take It Easy , Hornpipe , Windy City
In retrospect, I regret having left out the Chicken Dance and Cabbage Rolls And Coffee Polkas, though. I wasn't thinking clearly.

Thanks for the comments, they are always appreciated!

Echo, it is time for a new prescription for me as I looked at the list and didn't see it. It sucks having Mr. Magoo as a relative.

I agree the Chicken Dance would have been a worthy addition.

As always, thanks for the comments and I am glad you enjoyed it!

Emerald Tablet - Story -> A lovely smooth sound. Great lyrics, fabulous vocals. The ending seems to drop off a bit suddenly, alas, but an excellent piece all around.

I thought youngsters suck at music... (I'm 16...lol)
Can you link me to this DnB track in question? Thanks for feedback. :D

I've seen Alex switch between his 2 profiles fairly frequently, and never saw any attempt at deception in it.

Of course, when I first started participating here, it did take a couple of switches for me to be sure it was the same poster. Hey Alex, maybe you should add an 'aka adj/xander' to your sig. That way you won't be accused of being shifty during flame-fests. :hihi: :P
I have no idea what he's on about. I haven't changed my sig(s) in a long time -- NOT ONE f**king LETTER.

One says "aleXander" and one say "ska adj" (ska = Sometimes Known As") and they've been that way, unchanged, for a long time. It's in the black colour. Is it not legible? :bang:

Also, BOTH my profile sigs lead to the same website. You want my phone number too? eH?

Anyway, I have this 'thing' about using pseudonyms, so I prefer using my real name and/or variations thereof -- as many do. If I could remember me password to 'Alex', 'Alexander' or 'AJ', I'd be using those as well maybe. :hihi:

*EDIT: Oh, I also have 'X3lA' but I can't remember the pw for that either. :hihi:

Also, if you've been around here long enough you get a legion of trolls that wanna follow you around for various perverse reasons, so the nic change has some advantage there -- baffle the stupid and so forth.

Anyway, enough about 'me' yet? :|

Can you all please just THINK and trust me (and most everyone else who's been around here long enough) when I say that, discussing politics, right-wing religious polemics and moralising about someone else's musical lyrics leads to an argument with someone else who doesn't subscribe to your views -- and leads to the decline of the spirit of the cafe.

If you have all these pent-up personal views that you just HAVE TO vomit forth, take it to HPC. Let your music 'speak' for you here -- words are too f**king clumsy anyway. ;)

NOW THEN -- on with the reviews -- I wanna read them :hyper:

G'morning... ahh...coffee..

I could care less if your 10 years old! Music is ageless. A good song is a good song.
Can you link me to this DnB track in question? Thanks for feedback. Very Happy
Sure why not. I'll share for all. I am open to suggestions on this one. In fact i am open to ANY suggestions regarding DnB. I have only written 5 DnB tracks and this is one of them.

I'm not really a fan of typical (ie: tekno4chavs lolol) Drum N Bass music, however I do enjoy their fast driving nature and the sounds used. Perhaps it's a matter of personal taste, but it's a bit too repetitive for me, but I like some of the ideas used. (The part at 1:00 was a nice touch). If you've heard of the likes of , US guys that do LIVE DNB with REAL INSTRUMENTS) or Simon V, those types of DnB I like. (Or the one in those Monday-Friday days with Devvo videos. Whoever made that was on drugs. lol.)

MaliceX wrote: it's a bit too repetitive for me
Yeah this is the issue i have with most dance music regardless of genre. It's too redundant. After 3-4 minutes tops i want to move on to something else. I may do 2 -3 minute tunes and piece them together to make a 60 minute collection. I write this stuff to give me something to workout to.

If you've heard of the likes of....
I'll check out the links. I haven't been keeping up to date on any form of music whatsoever. The last DNB artists i got into were the likes of Total Science, Ed Rush/Optical, Aphex Twin to name a few of the top of my head. Old Skool stuff.
I need to take a trip to Beatport.

Post

Aphex Twin wasn't DnB. Richard James was more...IDM/Acid Techno, though his recent stuff like Chosen Lords he sorta went a bit too houseish on that.

My favourites of his come from "The Richard D. James Album" and "Drukqs" (this i personally own. very nice stuff on Drukqs. :D)

Oh yeah, I'll namedrop two more. mu-Ziq (aka Kid Spatula) and Venetian Snares. :D

Post

Yeah i had a couple of mu-Ziq's stuff. I remember when i first heard him i thought he was absolutely nuts! Never heard anything like it at the time (early nineties i believe).

I had Drukqs from APhex as well and could have sworn it was trippy DnB. I bought the record in 2004 i believe??
Great stuff! I have to pick it up again.

EDIT: Oh you know what......i think i may be confusing Aphex with Squarepusher!

But still......Drukqs is top notch.
