I remember reading about this software a couple of years back. It would automatically create a sample program from a VSTi, or maybe even a midi synth aswell? Anybody know what I'm talking about. I wouldn't know where to start looking, well, except for here :)

I know the latest E-MU EOS2 sampler now has this feature, but I don't have an E-MU card to use that with. It would be nice though with those z-plane filters.

Extreme Sample Converter does this, amongst many other things.
Vertigo and Chainer will also do this.

Not Vertigo; High Life.

Many thanks for the quick responses! I had no idea chainer could do that. Might give all 3 a try.

There's also Sample Robot, and Samplit from the makers of CDXtract. They automatically loop the samples, something you really really really want. :)

(I used to produce sample CDs, and hand looping samples is the least fun part of the job.)

Cool, thanks, I'll check those out. And yes, looping would be nice to have included!

Directwave can do this tooit has Built-in VSTi host to easily automate "sampling" of your vst instruments directly .

FYI, since version 2, EmuX doesn't require an E-MU audio card to run... the standalone version ships with a small usb midi interface, which it uses as a "dongle".

Cool, I'll try Directwave aswell. Testing them all right now, and each has it's own strngths and weaknesses.

Oh, so E-MU X2 doesn't require an E-MU audio interface anymore? So if I used that with their USB midi interface dongle, I could run it with my Mackie Onyx? I'll have to look into that..

Thanks once again for all the replies here. After trying all those suggested, I've decided to go with Extreme Sample converter. Really impressed with how simple and quick it's looping tools are. Plus being able to output in may formats, VSTi & hardware support.

Does ESC do auto looping for each recorded zone?

I believe autolooping when i see it. Is there really a program that does it well ? I mean really well.

I really don't think you can trust a program to "auto loop" that has to be done with your own ears to get it right.

But Extreme Sample Converter is probably the best app in my eyes for sure for building up your own library
