Questions about Sample Clearance :

Like thousand of others before us, Hip hop and house albums we're about to release include famous soul funk samples.

As it's the 1s time for us we sample, we wanna know more about sample clearance.

I've been searching this forum for hours but nothing good enough.


So :
- what's the proceedure to clear a sample : contact the concerned record label
and find a deal with them or what?

- I know that sample clearance may be expensive, but is it possble to determine a price range to pay?
If so, what are the factors that determin this price range : sample's length in our track?
fame of the sampledtrak?

i think most people who have the money to pay for sample clearances usually have a lawyer on hand to deal with the specifics, which is why you may not see much info about the details of clearing a sample on this forum. you will however find plenty of debate on whether or not you need to clear your samples in the first place which i'm sure you've found some discussion of.
