Unmastered version? I was way ahead of you this time Kingston.

BTW if you or Bduffy want to know the answers now that the unmastered version is up, shoot me a PM and I'll let you know.

now that was a whole lot easier! I prefer the first one so I guess that's the upsampled mix (?). That about corresponds to my experiences with upsampling mixes as well. just *overall* better sound, even if subtly so. Looking forward to finding out which was which.

oh,

and I take back my rougher commentary on the sound quality of your source material. seems it was just your master bus that was ruined and harsh. :uhuhuh:

good mythbusting. :tu:

Post

Ok! First one = upsampled, I think.

+1 for taking the master bus shit off; you just don't need it! :D

I prefer the first one, it's more "open" sounding...

I've exported a test, btw...most interesting...are we waiting for this poll to close?

So something I was wondering: with an EQ at a higher sample rate, we expect to hear finer detail (especially) in the upper frequencies; what do we expect from a compressor? More accuracy?

Post

Hey Duffy.

Shouldn't we expect to hear a pinch more accuracy? I am still getting my head around it, but if the compressor has more room to move regardless of whether the sound started life as 16/44.1 or not, it should in theory have more space in which to work with/isolate the
areas its told to.

is that kind of right?

Hey Dayl! I have never thought about this before, and that's kind of what I'm thinking, but I'd be lying if I said I know; I totally have to defer to someone who knows these things. Maybe I could find a dev to bug...or just wait for Kingston to pop in. :hihi:

Heh hes bound to be in sooner or later.

It just seems logical to me, but its a pretty big learning curve, of which I am only just approaching the steep part.

For example.

If you hand me a thick marker pen and some small mathmatical grid paper, ask me to fill
in the grids to form a pattern while not going over the outer edges...I could maybe do it or do a reasonable job, but would probably have a hard time.

on the other hand, with the same marker, if you give m the exact piece of grid paper,
only this time it has been enlarged, I would not only be able to perform the given task, but I would also be more precise, as I would benefit from the increased scale.

Hmm, thats kinda my logic, I know its a bit yin yang but.....

hmm, not the greatest pic...um...'and if you gave me a ruler.............' :D

Yep, I think that's the general idea: more bits, better picture...I wonder what his picture looks like?

Not sure who guessed that correctly, but I'd love to know why you did.
