My sound card has a third and fourth I/O which is strictly S/PDIF.
What's the cheapest way of putting them to use as extra audio I/Os?
I sometimes have friends over and it would be cool to have those extra channels... Also It might give me a way of using some outboard effects that don't support digital I/O.

Any tips?

Find yourself one of those standalone CD burners that were out a few years ago (I have a Pioneer myself). They run around $50 or so nowdays, and they'll have S/PDIF ins and outs. I use mine to drive a monitor amp; I mostly use it for generating feedback with amp plugins

Art DPS 2-channel preamp has S/PDIF outputs.

Also the TC Electronic M300/M350 multi-effects unit can use S/PDIF I/O.

The preamp looks like something I could use, but it's a little pricey.
I don't know how I'd stick my guitar cable into the CD burner...

What I'd like is like a DI box which has an AD circuit, I suppose.
I'm thinking the Behringer VVerb looks like the most likely thingy though. Or maybe I'll sell my Juli@ card and install an audio card with more inputs.

Cheapest S/PDIF audio thingie?
