Wall of Guitars and PODXT

How to make that sound...

It's easy in Cubase (asuming this is one of the newer versions... I don't know the older ones). Just right click in the track window, and use the Add bus. The you get a selection of options. You would normaly just select a stereo bus. Then assign all of your guitar track's output to that bus. This is really easy, and well covered in the manual.

The thing about Safire... Open the VST connections (it's in the device menu), and then click add bus (this is different bus than the other one btw). And just keep adding busses, untill you've got them all. Remember to asign them as well.

Cheers - you've been really helpful. Much appreciated.

Are you talking about Group Channels there, Waker? You mean send all the guitar channels to a Group Channel?

My personal preference is 4 tracks of guitars: 1 hard left, 1 hard right, 1 panned 1/2 left, and 1 panned 1/2 right. I ease up on the distortion as well cuz i've found that less distortion on more tracks seems to sound heavier and fatter than lots of distortion over 2-3 tracks.

Bingo - right on the money.

Put something clean in the middle, even an acoustic guitar layered in. The key is trying to play those triple tracked parts as precisely the same as possible. The very slight nuances between them create the wall-o-guitar image you are looking for.

This also works on strummed acoustic guitar tracks where you want a huge acoustic sound. Double or triple track the parts and hard pan at least 2 of them left and right.

Edit: Probably some time for examples.

Electric guitar example from a remix I did of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek", this one is just double tracked, hard panned, not so precise playing so it might be like Hovmod's wall-o-****:
Hide and Seek Remix with double tracked distorted electric guitars

Acoustic guitar wall-o-guitar example; my version of Beck's "The Golden Age":
The Golden Age - double tracked acoustics, no chorus

One thing you might want to be careful of - I would force the POD output to MONO when tracking if you are going to try the double/triple track idea. Otherwise some of the double/triple tracking effect might get muddied up by the POD's own stereo trickery that it might be applying.
