I'm assuming you know about this stuff?

that kind of software crap is what prompted me to drop the hardware (but of course, you like hardwarez  )
Never looked at them, no.

Probably not up my alley either. I tend to do my manglings with as little scientific influence as possible. :hihi:

Made this over the weekend:
Image
Talk 'n learn alphabet with new paintjob and added body contacts. The two metal contacts on the left are for moderate pitch up/down. The center metal contact brings the pitch way down to the point of stopping the sound, depending on how subtle the contact is. All three used together do some wierd stuff. Also I added a headphone out that unintentionally produces an odd ringmod type effect when the bottom left contact is triggered while the output is in use.

I can post some sounds if anyone wants to hear it.

The response is, naturally - please do so!

Here's a couple short recordings:

Example A
This one is repeating the alphabet, while I play with the pitch contacts. If I wable my hands on the metal buttons it has the same effect on the voice, like an unstable tape effect. The ringmod you hear every so often is possibly the result of bad wiring of the headphone out, but at least I can control it now.

Example B
This is one of the many goofy songs this thing plays...
here I'm doing pretty much the same thing as above but stopping the sound all together at the end with the down pitchshift for a stuttering effect.

Very nice stuff, Jack. I love the ringmod effect. :tu:

I just put a gloss coat on my 'phone and I'll likely be assembling it tonight. w00t.

Heh. It has tones. I've wired up a joystick to two contacts which produce two tones that I call 'scream' and 'whine'. The pitch of them changes depending on the amount of current sent to the points.
and you'll only get those 2 basic tones, that are the base of the DTMF synthesis that produces the tones, each key sends (or trigs) 2 voltages, 1 is a carrier, the other the modulator)

I don't think the tones that you're describing, and the tones I probed and found, are the same.

But what I did, was f**k shit up. Thanks to creative short-circuiting, I'm throwing voltage into places it wasn't meant to go and the unit screams as a result.

Well, after some trial and (tons of error), the assembly has been completed and the phone is done.

Ripped from the pages of my website:

Two 100k joysticks are connected to what I've come to call 'tone' and 'screech' while two SPDT switches toggle various effects and a 1Meg knob (seemingly) controls the threshold of the audio input as well as the rate and depth at which the 'tone' is stuttered.

I'm also very proud of the visual design of the 'Phone, so the following links go to four better quality images.

Click the here to hear four bars of my Gameboy repeated before they are sought out and indecently touched by the 'phone.
Enjoy! :D

Not yet, at least not on Google.

Sorry, just discovered this thread. I'm off to the Salvation Army store tomorrow to try to find something to bend...

I've got it working, it's just unsightly at the moment...
It's got a built-in walkie talkie to control the volume of the tones, but if you turn it up too much it produces a sustained morse code noise...it's a very thrown together contraption.

I'll post a pic after I spraypaint it.

You could throw a trim pot. on the 'talkie to set a threshold. That is, if you didn't want morse code noise. :hihi:

I look forward to seein your 'phone, Jack! :D
