An alesis andromeda in vst form.. lol. It would have to sound as good or even better as the real thing though. Anyone up to the task?

My dream VSTi ?

Well...( I know it is probably not possible ) but a VSTi like Albino3,
where you can take patches and mix them together, except it wouldn't increase the
CPU (I know...dream on )but it would range
from Ambient, atmospheric, bizarre sounds.

It would also have a lazy button ( like
H.G's stuff, ( I love lazy buttons, they are so random and I usually hit a lazy and tweek from there ) except the lazy button would be triggered by yoy keyboard.

You can select which key on your keyboard would trigger the lazy button, so
you can generate random sounds whilst
recording realtime or live. also a drum synth like this would be cool, like a
bundle pack.

I would pay dearly for one of these.

A modular synth w/ ridiculously accurate emulations of almost any piece of analog or VA synth architecture you could think of, able to be mixed and matched in any configuration:

-Wanna give Moog oscillators the JP-8000 style "super___" treatment? Sure!
-Want the PWM of an Alpha Juno modulating an Arp pulse wave? Go right ahead!
-303 filter in full squelch tweaking damn near anything other than what it was meant for? Heh, why not...

To make it more user-friendly, add a standalone mode where you can freely mix & match the schematic parts, then save it as a preset configuration for use in your host.

With this, you could do anything from make a small tweak to an otherwise accurate emulation (i.e.: "I wonder what a Prophet 5 would sound like w/ a 3rd Oscillator...") to make an absolute Frankenstein BEAST of a synth.

There's stuff out there that comes within a mile of this (I'm sure someone with no life could do something nice in Reaktor), but nothing where they really thought about it as such an open field. Even Arturia's lil "hardware" synth doesn't go as far as I'm talking about, since they only have modules from VSTs they've made. With this there'd never be any more "I like how it's set up, but I can't quite get THIS sound...", it'd be the Swiss Army Knife of all things subtractive.

If anyone's really up for this notation tool, I'll give it a shot. Anyone who's interested, send me a PM; I'll start another thread for it too.

What's the highest number known to man? That's how many pings I want!

Seriously, I would love to have a Colossus-style workstation plugin from Spectrasonics.
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

I like the idea of a software sampler a lot. Sadly, there is still no really complete software sampler available. All of the "majors" (Kontakt, HALion, Intakt, etc.) still don't have wave editing, sampling, or drag-and-drop to/from a VST host. So I'm still stuck on hardware samplers.

DirectWave is getting really close, but is not available for Mac. The new "Morgana" looks good, but it too will be Windows-only. EmuX is also Windows-only.

Soft-synths are a lot further along than softsamplers, and I don't think there is much more to add to that world. But the current "softsamplers" suck big-time, and I hope that the vendors will soon address this by providing a cross-platform software sampler that is truly COMPLETE - and cross platform.

not a vst, but it sounds like a similar concept.

Reaktor with decent sound quality

Oh, did I already mention that ? Let me be more specific: Reaktor with good enough quality to do decent pads (turn off the FX and reverb please) rather than the thin characterless bland pap that it currently outputs.

If Reaktor did have a top-notch sound it would easily blow away just about every other VSTi. Did I hear you say "Virus emulation" or "smooth Prophet" or "Moog rubber" ? But it doesn't come close to those synths. Not on the same planet. The sound engine is simply too weak.

Hence my "dream VSTi".

They have programs kind of like that already. Not in VST for of course. I used to use them when I was taking basic theory classes. There was one called "Music FUNdamentals" and a few others. They really helped me, especially the ear training games.
