Hi KVR'ers

i'm having massive problems with my tascam us428...
When i turn it on, no connection to the PC seems to happen.

Talked to the german Support-Company and for the money they want i could afford something new...

Please tell me your experiences with Support-Companies and (eventually) USB-Problems.
I just cannot decide whether its worth the effoert or not.

Please help!

How old is the unit? No more warranty??
Did it ever work OK? Anything changed in your setup since?

It never had any faults... working perfect until now.
Didn't change anything on my system.
Yes tried it on another machine.
It must be a hardware fault, but I don't have any experience about Support.
They want 64 Euros just to check it and tell me whats wrong with it and how much it will cost to repair it.
Don't know what to do.

Well... Things do break every now and then

If you wanted to upgrade to a better device anyway, then maybe now is the time

But if you were happy with it, then do have it looked at.

And maybe you can negotiate: no cure no pay! If they can't repair it (for an amount less than ...) then they may keep it and you're not charged. Try that, maybe they'll fall for it. Be angry with them, be stubborn, play it hard...

Thanks for all your answers...
I just love the US-428. And looking at the alternatives doesnt make me happy cause they either are too small (2 inputs) or too large (10).
Can't find a good one with 4 trimmable inputs.
Anyone knows some?

TRy another USB cable. I was having weird problems with the Nord G2 editor a couple of days ago; kept freezing, and losing the connection to the two G2 Engines's I have. Eventually I sussed that the cable between a USB hub and one of them was misbehaving, and replacing that solved everyhting.

That's part of the negotiation. Do not be nice with them, and tell them they can keep it if they can't fix it.

But first check another cable indeed...
