I caught one of the elastic bands on the shock mount and stretched it beyond usefulness so I went out and bought some elastic cord and was sat there doubling it up and trying to make a loop the same size as the original when i found myself staring at a large pack of hair bands my gf leaves at my flat. They're practically identical to the bands on the shock mount - just prettier colours!

Needless to say the pop filter really is an old pair of her tights and a coat hanger.

That's a good and sensible idea.
I think I'd use the fluffy ones if I'd ever have to repair the shock mount. Just for kicks.

Fluffiness is almost always good.

I can confirm that the pink ones cause the sound to be 7% fluffier.

It may cause the need for OMGPONIEZ!!1 eliminators, though.

Oh, you can also put butterfly clips on there too, just to make it girlier, if you want?
Gear list: Sony micro tape dictaphone, shares in Behringer and elastic bands.

I know! Why are they so crap?! :x

Thanks for the tip though. 3 females in my house, so I should never have to buy a new shock-mount elastic ever again... :hihi:

I'm just clearing some stuff out of my flat and found the original box. Of course there's two spares in it! DOH!

Post

wanna swap 'em for two pink scrunchies??

instead of a coat hanger, i got a tip to use a needle point hoop...or is it a knitting hoop? something to do with sewing...anyway, it's a wooden hoop that makes a good homebrew pop filter...i got a funny look when i bought the nylons though :hihi:

Gotta be an embroidery hoop, knitting wouldn't work that way. [edit: *looks it up(* Apparently needlepoint is a kind of embroidery; same hoop.] The thing that makes them perfect for this is that they've got an inner hoop and an outer one that clamps around it, so you can stretch the pop-filter fabric (in whatever lovely shade highlights your legs/voice best) taut, then Do the Tighten Up. Looks almost as good as the "pro" ones and I've heard that they work just as well. All you have to do is make an adapter to mount it to a mic stand and "Bob"'s your uncle.

that's it...a woman gave me one, i knew it was something to do with the "thread arts"...it worked exactly like you describe, i used a spare mic stand and a small spring clamp, worked great....
