I am splitting my time between the finishing touches on Studiophonik and co-producing a Genesis song with Simon Collins. We're using almost all IK and Sonic Reality sounds and effects in it apart from a few things. We're also experimenting with global internet sessions and did one with ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. It really is amazing what can be done over the internet. We decided today that we're going to do vocal tracks with me co-producing the session over ichat or yahoo when Simon is back in Canada. Then we'll probably go to LA to mix later this year. It all sounds really cool... like some kind of nuevo-Genesis/Gabriel mixed with electronica and film soundtracks sort of thing. I have a blog about it on our myspace page www.myspace.com/sonicreality
i saw a famous music editor from hollywood speak and he says that when they record orchestras in europe now the studio sets up Quicktime Server which is apparently free. then they use iChat to talk about what they're hearing on quicktime. there's a bit of a delay between the two programs but in general all the LA guys sit in their pajamas in their homes late at night and conduct the session saving tons of money. i think it's pretty cool how things are changing, just imagine when broadband internet gets even faster?
