Hi,
Any specific plugins out there for sounds that are closer to say ministry, nine inch nails, skinny puppy rather than the "ordinary" synth sounds? Any suggestions are most welcome, thank you,
Robert

...Some words from Mr Reznor :
"Native Instruments Apps Have "Teeth"
"I think it is an excellent time right now — from a sound and sonic point of view — where the dark ages are past," says Reznor. "There's a limitless palate of interesting stuff coming out software-wise. I mean, Reaktor alone. It's great to have additive and granular synthesis at your fingertips, and the spectral stuff. I'm excited because there are several new software apps that I've got and some hardware that I haven't even scratched the surface of.
"I find that exciting from a sound design point of view —new ways to treat things, ways to evoke emotions out of certain things, " he explains. "At the top of my list would be pretty much everything Native Instruments makes. From Reaktor to Vokator and Battery for drums. I've messed around with Kontakt a bit and Absynth is great."
Aside from NI, Reznor attests to a few more plug-ins. "The Waldorf Attack is a good little thing to use a lot." He also deployed the use of the previously PC-only Trash plug-in extensively for "With Teeth." "But don't even try using Trash on a Mac without saving your song first," he cautions. "

Try Virsyn Tera 3. I have found this synth
to be excellent for creating excellent
sounds for use in INDUSTRIAL music.

Reaktor
Absynth
FM7/8
Massive
Cameleon 5000
Komplexor
Surge
And don't overlook using and abusing samplers.
Anyway, it's more about the processing than anything else. iZotope Trash is the shit for Industrial. I also use convolution a lot as an effect.

Rock is great too for industrial sounds. And also Chimera is great for industrial textures. But I agree, it's almost all in the processing: take Vanguard + a good distorter and you can do wonders.

Just record yourself some clangs and bangs with your microphone then process them with IR/GlaceVerb Reverb, amp mod, pitch enveloping, distortion/waveshaping etc.

The great thing about industrial is the whole entire 0 rules aspect of it. If you want to include some pretty sounds, go ahead (Skinny Puppy has done it on more than one occasion) if you want to record yourself smashing a watermelon with a baseball bat, well you might get a #1 single (if that reference needs explaining then you need to check your music history). If you want to use a cheap and dirty synth and pipe it through 3 different distortion units and a chorus, then do that instead.
All in all you're looking for good thwacky resonant drums. Pump your drums through a reverb unit. You're definately looking for white noise and pink noise generators.
Unlike Ambient you probably are looking for a good arpegiator or two.
And make certain that your filters are modulatable.
Now, you can pay through the nose for all thise (Absynth's a great synth) or you can turn to some of the local devolopers, give them the credit they deserve and enjoy their creations.
UGO makes some great machines that he has been kind enough to share with the world. So have the guys at NOVAkill.

I haven't tried that unit, but I will +1 it. Otto Von Schirach.... I saw him live with Skinny Puppy in 2005.... I was thoroughly annoyed by his stuff but I could see some glimmer of brilliance to it.
Then he did some work with Puppy on the MythMaker album, and the stuff was just brilliant. None of what made his stage set painful in all the wrong ways, and the glimmer was a fullblown supernova of talent.
