Hello Ixox, nice to meet you; it's obvious you don't know me, since I'm not very active on the net.
Anyway, I hope that when the contest is over, and I will be able to make you have a listen at the original "On The Road" and to other things of mine, somebody will be interested in collaborating to make new music - I just *love* it
Regards,
Mario

oddbodgsfinger - Give in a bit of celtic/folk and some yank country-whatever music accompaniment, this actually sounds like a real performance despite the vocals sound too good for it to be live performed with everything at once. The tune is catchy, and sounds more better than the entire polka.
Love the lyrics, so cruel. Sound+production is ace.
spirulence - This sounds like a more early 90's era type of rearrangement of this song, with an attempt to mix in some kind of element of DnB with a more nostalgic approach with synthesizer music before then. I like it, though it sounds quite short in movement/arrangement (course the competition restrictions are to be considered) I like it.
kundara - Oh yes! Some smart DnB programming there. It's clean, the sounds are clean and remain relative in vibe. It's a lot more clearer than the original yet it sounds more danceable to, sort of like a 'B' side. Thumbs up!

Thanks Mr XMaliceX wrote: ....this actually sounds like a real performance despite the vocals sound too good for it to be live performed with everything at once.
Actually, most of the vocal was first takes (recorded a verse at a time). There were only a couple of lines redone, so it may have a little more spontinaity than usual.
Turned out it was just one of those songs that was easier to sing than most..or maybe it's just that it doesn't need a 'nice' performance.
I usually need a fair few retakes and drop ins.

kundara - DrumNJazz -> Some very discordant and jarring elements make this a tough listen for me. The end seems to come a bit suddenly. My favorite bit's between 0:59 and 1:14; a nice cool-down and pause before getting frenetic again.
me109 - Rhapsody in Beer -> That was a fascinating ride. Gerschwin and polka interspersed. I admire the smoothness with which you transition between disparate elements and create a cohesive whole. Superb.

Now that I've submitted my entry I can listen a bit closer to everybody else's output. I just caught NikP2000's Into Night 2. Wow - that's great! How about letting us know what you used to get the sounds?
And what about the title? The sounds and atmosphere are reminiscent of the tremalo guitar on the Twin Peaks soundtrack. There was a song on there by Julee Cruise called "Into the Night". Any reference to that?

Quoting Oddbods : "I got no time", but that's no valid excuse, so here some more reviews :
knockman - Frogs : Obviously a clear example of the "MelloSchool"; New Wave style singing and lots of fun (my frogs in the garden are singing your song day and night !).
napalmbob - Heartache : Another example of the "MelloSchool", but now featuring the other facet of that peculiar kind of music : demolition of sound and/or using "alien noizes". Not my cup of tea, but IMO very well done and everything in a good balance.
me109 - Rhapsody in beer : A lovely more "classical" approach of this Polka. I admit I'm running out of compliment-words... I thought KvR was a site for and with plugin devellopers; lately it seems to be more and more a site with excellent music creators and producers. Quoting Kalimero : "There's no more justice in the world". No way to win this contest, but so addictive, 'cose it's so much fun.
I'm afraid the DEA will illigalize it sooner or later !... .. .
Kundara - Drum NJazz-2 : This is an outstanding version of the song I also did. A bit Melloish, but an amazing production. Impressive !!!
oddbodsfinger - I got no time : No time for this, for that. IMO because you spend to much time in making wonderful music, you naughty boy !!! Oddbods goes barok.
rachmiel - Sci-fi-polka : Without any doubt the headmaster of the MelloSchool. The man with the largest articles in the press. A ramacable man and creator of the finest polka I've ever heard !
nikp2000 - Into night2 : I'm getting tired of writing (maybe because I use the 1-finger-police-agent-style-type-writing), so I keep it short : beautiful interpretation. Has anybody ever thought of making a plugin that writes song contest reviews ?

For you it's 'Mello-School', because i taught (tortured) you to listen to more weird stuff (except Zappa, who was in your heart before), but there are so many noisemakers here......olala
Thanks for the flowers, but i have to refuse.....sorry!

I know what you mean. But this is a small island and you're the only other KvRer here. To keep things simple I devide music in MelloSchool and the rest...
No compliment was meant
; but if the School's on your name, you'll have to pay the taxes !

BTW that Yamaha DD-55 is flippingly amazing; pocket drums.
The dentist is going to get one too !
