hi,
I've got cubase sx3 at home on my desktop and I just got the idea to install it on my laptop so that I can bring it to work and mess around with it.I cannot bring a midi keyboard to work with me so what I'd like to do is to play my vst's using the computers keyboard .I know this is kinda ridiculous but it might be a fun way to pass some time at work.Anyway in stand alone mode I can play the vst's using the comp keyboard but it seems like when I use them within the cubase host it doesnt work.And then of course there is the problem of some of my vst's that have no virtual keyboard.Can anyone tell me if what I want to do is possible?

Well, here's the good news: Yes, you can do it.

Here's the bad news: I don't know where the tools are to do it. But I'm sure that somebody will stop in and share the links. I don't use them, so I have no idea what they are even called.

But I KNOW that you can do it.

I think you would have problems, because of the multitude of hotkeys in Cubase.
Logic has the Capslock keyboard
FL has a typing keyboard option Ctrl T
Why not concentrate on things like drum programming

Ummm, don't you risk being fired for, you know, not working at work?

Maybe this http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download together with MIDIOX? That is, you'd program Glovepie to generate MIDI notes from your computer keyboard, route them to MIDIOX and from it to Cubase...I don't know much about Glovepie, I should explore it and MIDIOX a little, even bought a dual-action joystick couple of months ago for the purposes of experimenting with sound control...Never got to it, spending too much time on the net, not doing anything useful...

+1 for MIDIOX it has a setting in it for keyboard to MIDI.. The downside IMO is your not going to get any velocity sensing!! You might get into a really big build in a solo and end up breaking your letters trying to achieve louder vels..

You could always program them in after (but it's never as good as the real thing)..

the easiest way i;ve found is " Axxeom Trollo "

You wont have to install additional midi routers and works as a vst within cubase itself but again does not get rid of the keyboard shortcut problem, maybe you can disable them in cubase.

I forgot that Reaper has a built in keyboard thingie !

can I use comp keyboard to play/record vst inst in host?
