Can anybody tell me how to create the analog warping sqwelchy acid noises used in psytrance?
Which synth/s are best to use for this type of sound.
Thanks in advance.

discodsp discovery can be used, it even has an fx bank which has some nice sounds for it. synth1 can do it too, but you will have to dig up some additional presets for those, and there aren't that many. apart from that, basically any synth with a more modular architecture could do it (z3ta, karmafx, for example).aerendraca wrote:Can anybody tell me how to create the analog warping sqwelchy acid noises used in psytrance?

Albino is great for this. Use a saw wave through a bandpass. Set the resonance to about 30. Modulate the pitch to an lfo. put it up to 20 on the modulation matrix. Use the phaser. Also modulate the cutoff. I use this technique often for psy.

Thanks for the excellent tips, been giving them a whirl and am very impressed with the results.
Will have a toy around with some other synths in my artilary, have a see what manipulations i can reep.
If anybody has any more tips on techniques for sqwelches that they wish to share please feel free, I'm open to all suggestions and I'm sure others will gain knowledge from the input.
Thanks again h.vox and LSDan.

i like using a synths high pass filter. im just getting into making this sound for my psytracks so im very new to it but this is some stuff ive found usefull
i use alphaCM cos i really like its filter section
the squencly acidy noise is very simmilar i find to making D&B basslines but just up a few octaves,,
what i do is have the attack on the filter up a bit with the decay at aroun 11 o clock, and just fiddle about with the cut off settings and that until i get a sweping kksshhrrrggwww sound and very a bit of resonance can help,,,,
LSDans methods bettre i think,, but this is how ive learnt how to do it,, kinda trial and error tho

resonance, saw waves & modulation. try different filters... the trick is just to get things moving.. pitch mod sounds also good when used with taste, and go totally overboard if you have the oscs on FM/RM/SYNC :)
so a quick trick:
set two oscillators on sync or ringmod, and the tweak the hell out of the pitch of the modulator.
and, oh, use heaps of distortion!
Also, sometimes with a lot of distortion it's good to keep the resonance down... This works especially well with a single saw osc, a steep (24db/Octave or, 4 Pole) highpass filter, and just a little reso. Then add a lot of distortion, and realize that every spot on the cutoff is suddenly sweet :)
