"warbly" synth sound

How to make that sound...

For all you house-heads out there...

If any of you are familiar with the Fanatix (Aaron Ross & Mike Patto), they have a new track out called "Mash It Up" on which Patto plays keys. Patto plays basically a non-stop barrage of funky synth lines, and once in a while he hits a note which kind of warbles in pitch (Bugz in the Attic do a lot of that kind of stuff also). It gives me the visual of him actually shaking the keys when he presses them.

If any of you made sense of my description, how would you program something like this?

I'm not familiar with this track, but from what you describe, you should try routing an lfo(triangle or sine) to the pitch of the oscillators and control it by the modwheel.

Yea I got ya! Well most guys playing this style (including myself) use either the modulation wheel on a MIDI controller, a pedal or setup an internal MIDI controller. IIRC soma has a vst with a modulation wheel.. Yes here it is.. Image

Also most good keys have this feature built in..

Hope this helps.

Personally, I use Albino III for these types of sounds. You can route a noise shaped LFO to the oscillator pitch, or even just the symmetry of all oscillators, and then hook that lfo's depth to the modwheel...that'll give you some really nice warbly sounds. If you own Albino III, let me know and I'll post up some patches from the upcoming Pro-Sounds set that use this technique.

Ohh I almost forgot to say.. You can set up the sensitivity on your MIDI controller so when you play softer on your keyboard it modulates more!

Thanks, boys, for some great tips. I don't know if I have the right keyboard (M-Audio O2) for live modulation, but I'll certainly have a go at the great programming suggestions!
