Jesus f**king christ NilsB....I swear your song has HUUUUUUUUUUGE potential. I need to get back into production so i can sell these tunes.
*producer chair*
(ahem)
1) First off, definitely get a female vocalist for this.
2) Second, make it more of a rock tune to start off. It would start out exactly as you have it but with straight edged rock drumming and get light distorted guitar (kind of Avril Lavigne-ish).
For the "chorus" (where you double your vox)it would get a little more distorted along with the acoustic.
As long as the distortion is light w/o overbearing the melody.
The melody after the "chorus" would be shortened to make the break before the second verse (2nd verse would be like the start of the song)
The way you have the song now (light pop) could be the final verse before going back into the chorus and ending it like you currently have it but keep the lively rock feeling intact....so picture it a little harder and singing "everything flows".........to fade out.
Sorry if i seem i'm rambling but seriously.....I could do something with this song. I just need the right female vocalist for this.
Now don't get me wrong, it's great as it is i just hear another version which would ROCK!!!

Nils_B - A different state of mind : Although the song's about a for me unknown experience, I do like this version very much. Another possible winner.
IMO your pronounciation is better than many English talking people ! Mick Jagger once couldn't understand what he sang on a record, trying to remember part of the lyrics !!! And Ray Davies has always a cold...
Excellent singing, playing and producing.
Joke : western guitar = playing guitar with cowboy boots on yer feet, yihaaa ! .... move'm up!... ridin', ridin', ridin'...
Holly Huppledepupple, Shushi, IMO you've made a little mistake with that mushroom omelet ! Take a Valium, think of yer heart !
I'm sure we'll get a rock version too in the contest.

Nils_B,
I'm quite impressed too by your submission; actually, I do not completely agree with Legion Hush, though I'd like a lot to hear his arrangement
Your version has many "Air"y touches that make a perfect climax in sinergy with the lyrics. I would change very little in all sounds you've chosen; can I ask you how you processed the vocal in the chorus? Just unison doubling or is there some other trick?
Lots of congratulations!
- Mario
P.S. I'm quite astounded by all I'm listening here; talent is at home here

Hi pple just pt my offering up really gave me a headache this month as I spent a long time trying to figure out which midi to use and not being very good with midis I just settled on the 1st one chopped it up a bit added some lyrics etc etc and finally came up with this probably get a consistent low vote but hey some IDIOT says it's the taking part that counts????
I've been travelling the road for far too long
carrying my ole guitar and a hertful of songs
I've been wandering the highways far and wide
I need to settle down with someone at my side
On the road is the only life I've ever known
now I need someplace just to call my home
I've been on the road so very long
time to put some roots down find somewhere to belong
Need to find a girl who'll share with me
my heart my life my home
someone to love and cherish and call my own
Need to find a girl who'll share with me

someone to love and cherish and call my own

Hi Mario,
thanks !
The chorus (here without reverb) is made in the following way :
Two "normal" unisono voices. One half left, the other half right. One high voice (1 octave) above. (Very quiet)
I put those 3 voices on the same Bus and added Compressor, and the Cubase Rotary FX (just a little bit)...
Nils

Thanks for all the music people. Great stuff
Kundera - DrumNJazz
Nice entry, love the beats, especially towards the end when they sound more squarepusher-esque. Bass sounds great.
Rachmiel - Sci-Fi Polka
Original take on the midi, good for a slowmo scene in a movie where something absurdly funny and surreal is happening. yeah. like it
Beardedone - On the Road
Nice smooth version of this track. Some of the sounds are a bit too far in the background for my taste (i.e. the drums) but it's got a nice vibe.
Nils B - A different state of mind
I love the instrumentation, the vocals are sweet as honey and it's very well mixed for my ears
Ianweb123 - MikeLeftField
Not too sure about some of the sounds, especially the organ sound doesn't really fit so well IMO. From halfway the song I like it, the plucking sounds are very nice.
Knockman - Frogs
Took a few listens to grow on me. Bit fragile sounding, gets better towards the end and then ends too quickly! Keeper
Laguna Rising - Wanton Exaggeration
I really like all the different instruments you used. Drums get a bit too frantic on the snare for me but the piano and guitar sound very nice. Works very well. Another keeper
Me109 - Rhapsody in beer
Feels like I'm on one of those German beerfests. And then I'm transported to a Ballroom in Vienna, on to France, Spain, Portugal, or is it Mexico? You seem to mix it all with such ease, great job!
Napalm Bob - Decisive Heartache
Cool beat, and I like the synth1 sound but it's a bit too much for the whole song. I would've liked a few extra instruments.
Nikp2000 - Into Night
Pretty, nice job with the guitars, especially that sound in the last 30 seconds, very sweet!
Oddbods finger - I got no time
You sure you didn't have a full backup band? Fabulous work on all the instruments, mix sounds great too.
Offthewall - Along the Road
Also having some difficulty with some of the pitch and timing of some instruments in this one. Seems like somehow the midi and live stuff weren't mixed in the right place. I did like the individual melodies you played live James, so give it another go with different presets.
Spirulence - On a Road with Sounds
At first I thought, wow slow down! But after half a minute it really sounds right. Lovely upbeat happy take on midi 1. Maybe I got a bad download but it seems to stop abruptly on 1.25.

Thanks Core! The mix is always the toughest. At fitts the drums were too much them too far back. Happy medium was what I entered, though I would have to agree with you now.Beardedone - On the Road

nikp2000 - Into Night 2 -> #1 - Love the sound of that guitar, quite different. Great sounds all around, with a deliberate and gentle sensibility to the track that I like.
rachmiel - Sci-Fi Polka -> #3 - Doing a polka in zero gravity is a s-l-o-w process. Nice sound effects throughout. Despite moving slowly, the end seems to come surprisingly quickly. Nicely atmospheric.
Nils_B - A different state of mind -> #1 - Very lovely track. Great vocals (you should sing with a cold all the time
). I like the understated percussion, and the low-key feel of the entire piece. Excellent.
