to make it clear. I do not want this for composition work (although I agree that a composition based an chance might be great, I actually heard some very good music based on that principle), but I want it for loop-based live performances. And a loop does sound much better if it has some variation in it. Check the video about the chaos designer of Spectrasonoc's Stylus RMX in order to know what I mean. And no, it could not just use this tool, since I want to create my own (midi-based) loops.

did you look at Lucifer? bit of a learning curve, but I think it might be an excellent solution.

erratic is very cool for variations for each cycle:

ERA/EST might be worth checking out as well--it's easy to create variation with gate times, fills, time variations, holds, repeats, slides, etc...

in real-time... [fixed]AKJ wrote:thanks guys but lucifer etc. is based on audio mangling. what I would like to see is automatic midi pattern variation.
that's a very big difference.

Might be useful after some experimentation (and in combination):
Randomid - http://www.thepiz.org/vst.html
Arp4midi - http://www.xoxos.net/midi.html
Randomvelo - http://mindthepressure.free.fr/plugz.php
These are free, tweak settings to make them work well for drum sequences
And have a look again at Sonicbytes ERA and Gat'R

actually, if EST would have the randomisation features of Erratic that would be it. Why is nobody doing such a thing: full featured stepsequencer with intelligent randomisation?Meloday wrote:erratic is very cool for variations for each cycle:

MakingWaves does this in *not* real-time. I sometimes use the velocity and note offset randomize feature over sections.AKJ wrote:actually, if EST would have the randomisation features of Erratic that would be it. I've made use of the note-pattern generator but only rarely do I ever actually use the results.

i think i remember reading in a thread somewhere that erratic will, at some point, have a built-in step sequencer so you could build each pattern, then you can adjust the randomness from there.
my question is, why aren't there any step sequencers that allow the user to toggle the 'pads', in the sequence row, on and off live via midi? if there is one availabe, let me know!
