Very strange- I had installed the studio drums capsule back in Oct 04- then went to use it today and found the library headings for SR Sound Libaries were empty in SampleTank. So I re-installed it- but it did not install the sounds in the existing ST Instruments folder. I found the original Studio Drums Capsule sound contents from 2004 still in my instruments folder- so not sure why they wouldn't show up- anyways I deleted 04 sounds and moved the newly installed SR folder(studio drums sounds)to the same place the old folder was. I opened up a song in progress- replaced "British" drumkit with "2D Plus Phaser" from the Studio Drums capsule and all the sudden Im getting spikes/glitches- I open my VST Performance meter and its going into the red (Cubase SX ver1.0.6). I switch back to British Drums and everything is fine again????? I have other songs with 2 sampletanks, audio tracks with effects ect- and not glitches/spikes at all- CPU usage in the middle- the song that glitches only has one sampletank and NO audio tracks- how can that overload the CPU and not the bigger project?
my system:
WinXP
Cubase SX 1.0.6, Soundforge 5.0, Sampletank2 XL
socket 478 P4@ 1.6gzA
ASUS PT-4e motherboard(no included sndcard)
Intel 850 Chipset
Seagate 40g Barracuda ATA IV System drive
80g Maxtor "L" series(pretty sure its D740X Ultra DMA133 7200RPM)audio drive
Soundcard: M Audio Delta 44 w/ Omni Studio breakout box

I have no idea. Did you call tech support? But, anyway, it's good to have the latest version of your host. I don't know if they even support that version anymore.

Thanks for getting back to me Squids- I lot of cubasers arent happy with C4 and are jumping back to SX3 it seems- do you mean the latest Version of SX1? Should I have ST2 XL app on my system drive and the sounds/samples on my audio drive? I just assumed that would slow it down- and I'd be better off having it all on the same drive. I did call tech support actually- they said get more memory and see what happens- I still believe that 512m of memory is enough for just 1 midi track with 1 sampletank playing only one midi channel and NOTHING else- no FX no audio tracks nothing- just one Midi track. And I remeber trying out Studio Drums kits on the fly while a bigger project was playing back (in 04)- I have no recollection of any CPU spikes- if so Im sure I would have called Tech support back them. I will double check in windows explorer to confirm that ST2 and the sounds are all on the same drive

I checked out the SR Studio Drums folder in explorer- it appears there are two acoustic kits in one folder with just over 800MB- so I imagine one kit is around 400MB- then you throw some FX in, and whatever RAM cubase uses- and this brings over the 512Ram limit?? Does that sound right? Could SX and ST2 FX swallow 112MB of ram? (no SX FX, just one midi track playing 1 st2 with just 1 st2 instrument on 1 channel)

Just ordered a gig of Rambus PC800-45 Ram- so we will see if that solves the problem. Found it for $300(aft tax&shipping) at oempcworld.com its either samsung or nec- companies like that- lifetime warranty, 30 day cash refund etc etc- sounded good to me

Yes, it is very important to at least have 1 gig of RAM for everything to run smoothly together.

By the way, the thread title was giving off a message that could be confusing to someone else (ie. Studio Drum Capsule itself doesn't make Cubase spike but it is rather the other things such as your RAM set up etc. that could cause that). So it was edited to be more accurate.
