Presets used back in the day!

I was wondering about a particular sound that was used back in the day, that is most famously used in "Music is moving" originally by Fargetta, but made famous around the 2000 mark by Cortina or Ben Keen (BK). It has a piano like envelope to it and I was just wondering if anybody knew which hardware synth had the preset, cos it was actually used quite a bit back in the early 90's by different artists.

Or maybe how to design it in a VST?

Truly a classic old school sound, I believe it's a resampled M1 piano, not 100% on that though.

I first heard this on a track by SL2 some time around 1990 and soon it was in dozens of other tracks (most notably by Sound Factory and BKS). One of SL2's singles has the sound in isolation, which I suspect is how everyone else lifted it.
Glad to know that not much has changed in dance music in the last 17 years.

So, does anybody know which synth or expansion card that actual patch came from? Or was it a resampled M1 Piano, for definite? And I think the SL2 track that it came from is "DJ's take control". And to be frank buddy, I was mixing tunes back in 92, so am well versed in old school. Just thought more people would know, music is moving, simple as.

It once was a piano. Maybe it even was a real one, back in the years...
Then it became a sinlge piano note in a sampling library.
Then somebody entered the notes A C E in his sequencer, neatly quantisized, let it play by the sampler and recorded in another sampler.
Now all those wanna-be producers that bought a sampler could play one actual chord! The old-schools never went to music lesson
Then somebody added the 3/8 ping-pong delay, maybe applied some EQ and distortion (if all that resampling wasn't enough)
there's the journey it took (by approximation)

it's a roland sound i'm sure.. unless roland sampled it from another place.. another synth, anyways i have an old eg-101 that has this sample i could upload it.. the eg-101 had almost the same sound banks as the mc303.. just with added keyboard so.. you might find it there too and possibly in older roland romplers/sound modules

ah nevermind.. not the same, i played the mp3 side by side eg101 sounds too thin compared.. sounds like an organ
it's similar.. but not exactly.. another sound sounds like the lead from the prodigy's android tune.. but again not quite the same, and another two have been used in christina aguilera's tune dirrty. some bank specializing in old sounds theme
