im looking to connect my cellphone to my computer.. but not with a data cable.

i want to simultaniously send and recieve audio to and from the mobile phone.

a y cable connecting the earpiece jack (which supports mic and speaker connections) [stereo 3/32" (2.5mm) i believe] to two seperate 1/8" [3.5 mm] or 1/4" [6.3 mm] connections (one for input and one for output) would be perfect, essentially turning your computer into an earpiece.

so far i cant locate anything like this, anything im not thinking of?
Thanks for the info

with this..

the stereo connections will allow for input and output right?

Looks like it only deals with the output portion of the phone, nothing is done with the mic input that's supposed to come from the headset.

I'd say the soldering iron should be your friend to turn to :hihi:

I'm not sure if it will at the same time...fwiw they do sell y cables with 1/8" stereo (trs) to 2 1/4 mono (ts), check 'cable up' (marketed by teac) or Mouser electronics...Mouser is great plce for parts, they have just about anything you might need, but they do have a minimum order (I think 25 bux).

This is an awesome resource for all things that you can solder:

this looks promising:

http://www.amazon.com/Techs-PPCPADPT12- ... B000F1YJQU

but im uneasy about it not having three rings on the 2.5mm male connector.

Post

The last ring is probably the switch used to pick up / hang up. With a multi-meter you can verify how that's exactly wired.

There's also a version with more rings:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F5 ... 85&seller=

And a "Samsung" version: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SPH-i700- ... 43&sr=1-48
(probably uses another wiring scheme than Nokia)

And one with mute/answer button: http://www.amazon.com/Techs-2-5mm-Heads ... 41&sr=1-51
(still have to use one of the other 2.5mm converters with that...)

So whatever you get: it remains a gamble weather it will work at the first try.

Laught at this: click on the "see larger image" link. Yes, the image is larger but the picture isn't :hihi:

If you really want to know the differences, these are "popular" wiring schemes for 3- and 4-conductor headsets:
http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/ ... nout.shtml

A major consideration if you want to connect your mobile to the PC: probably you want to connect the line out of the PC to the mic in of the phone. Since the phone is designed to have a condenser mic connected, it will supply a small current on these connections. If you short-cirquit that by accident the phone is put at risk.

And line levels have another impedance and are much stronger than mic levels. So you'll probably overdrive the humble mic amp inside your phone...

i think those all only support headphones.. one jack for mono headset [support for mic?] and the other for stereo headsets.. so far the only one that supports a mic in and audio out [ mono only =( ] is:

http://www.amazon.com/Techs-PPCPADPT12- ... B000F1YJQU

now if only they made a 4-connector version with a mic in and Stereo audio out.

Why stereo?? All phone line connections are mono...
The only stereo you get out of the phone is of the optional MP3 player and FM radio or maybe the odd Java game designed for your phone.

It may help if you specified which phone you own. There are too many conflicting wiring schemes...
The Amazon shop says "standard" too easily. They don't say which phones are compatible with any specific 2.5mm adapter.

Maybe this is an easier solution: http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=116914

Ofcourse combined with a BlueTooth USB dongle on your PC ;-)
It supposedly takes care of all electric incompabilities you can think of. Wireless and easy!

PS: they advertise with being compatible with about anything. I just checked and they might be compatible with something, but NOT with Nokia phones :hihi:
And their compatibility checker applet sucks...

OK I'll bite....
Why do you want this?
You do realize your cell phone fidelity is 500hz-2Khz right?

Post

hey...

your right about the mono phone calls.. funny i never even thought of that.

basically i wanted this to be able to use my computer as an interface for extended phone calls, or calls in which i need to present audio (with limited quality of course) to the other participants, even grab clips of vocal samples (subjects notified of course) for use in making music. incorporating my enviornment will continue the effort of unifying aspects of my life through the works im creating, and who knows.. maybe one day ill look back on these series of tracks as soft of an abstract audio diary.

and its a LG VX 8300 from verizon

One thing to be aware of is it is a violation of federal law to record telephone conversations of any type without either permission from all parties involved in a specific manner prescribed by law or a court order.
