I've just tested it on a recent project of mine. This comp is, imho ofcourse, serious business! For me, if a compressor works on a drum-bus it's a good one and this one even beats Marquis in fatness. I hate to sound like a fanboy, but this thing is really good.
I've also tried it on a bassguitar track and on vocals and it performs very well. There is a slightly higher CPU-load than my Voxengo-plugins, but not much (i have a Athlon64 3200+ and i'm working on Windows XP64).
Crysonic shouldn't need to practice questionable marketing-tactics for this one (they are a bit over the top to begin with, look at their site), it is simply not necessary.

I am not hearing this "warmth"...sounding like hell on the drum bus, nothing like Marquis...I must be missing something.
Oh, for the record: NewB rules. One of their best products.

I doubt that there is. Everybody has different perceptions/gear, so will hear differently imo.Compyfox wrote:Maybe there's just something wrong with out ears, bduffy.
Personally, I've been staying away from crysonic fx, since the cpu is so high. I understand this is the case with synthedit plugs - So the 1s I do buy have to be something special (eg, Metallurgy). Also, crysonic's tactic of 'buy this product soon & you'll get half off' doesn't impress

Maybe it's not right for the material you're producing. I write rocksongs, very straightforward, with all live played instruments. For me this one sounds very good

I didn't mean to offend, if I have unintentionally, my apologiesMelodyMan wrote:Maybe it's not right for the material you're producing. I write rocksongs, very straightforward, with all live played instruments. For me this one sounds very good.

Sorry but that's just BS - what good is a plugin if it can only be used for one music genre. And who said I didn't try to use it on rock? Who even said I spoke for "all" people that newB is totally useless "to me"?MelodyMan wrote:Maybe it's not right for the material you're producing. Seriously... jeez.

Well there's at least 4 variables preventing us from talking Apples&Apples:
1. Input program (could use common references)
2. Compressor settings (could share presets during shootouts)
3. Skill level (develops over time and collaboration)
4. 'Ear' & Taste (uniquely 'You' - God's gift!)
I wrote a suggestion in parenthesis about how to strive for common ground.

Whoa there! I think some people took MelodyMan's statement the wrong way! That sounds reasonable to me: he's just saying that maybe this type of compressor works well for his style of music, and maybe not as much for some others. I think that's fair. You probably don't want to use an 1176 on a piano solo, but it rules on drums; some compressors are better-suited to certain material.
That being said, I tried this on mainly rock drums, and it just didn't seem to impart any "warmth" and the attack seemed easily defeated, and something that can't handle drums doesn't stay long in my plugin folder.
Kylen, common source and settings is a good idea. I should upload a drum loop or something...

Yeah, see, I thought it was more "nips" than "balls".MelodyMan wrote:Who, i touched a nerve here and therebduffy wrote:Whoa there! I think some people took MelodyMan's statement the wrong way! I have only tested it on one project, it's possible that it doesn't fare so well on others. But i seriously don't get the hate for this plugin. I wouldn't say it has "warmth" but it has balls, if you catch my drift. And i like balls
.
For balls, I prefer this or this.

Thanks for reminding me about BuzComp series bduffy - he has a linear phase multi-comp that I forgot about...not to mention the nice single band stuff.
I guess Ken Watabe got out of the business, or was hired in to a nice corporate dsp gig?

Well, I don't know...I just bought the CP series, so he's still in business, but I've emailed him twice in the last couple months with no response. And that cool linear-phase multiband has been in beta for 2 years or more...it's a shame, I think he could rule the roost if he could raise his profile a bit. Vanilla comp gets more press than he does, and he's got a bundle that can compete with Waves Mastering!kylen wrote:Thanks for reminding me about BuzComp series bduffy - he has a linear phase multi-comp that I forgot about...not to mention the nice single band stuff.

Oh OK - I thought he moved on because of that 2 year old beta. I've had CP for a while but put it away and forgot about it till tonight when you mentioned it. I like the sound of the compressors - I had CP-2 and CP-3 sounding pretty good a coupla minutes ago to smooth out things a bit. I didn't know they would compare with Waves Mastering - thanks you just saved me $675! But right now I'm tuning up Soniformer - my best dynamic EQ for transparent repairs.bduffy wrote:Well, I don't know...I just bought the CP series, so he's still in business, but I've emailed him twice in the last couple months with no response.
