Recreating this bass sound

I'd like to recreate the bass sound used by "The Sounds" on their song "Painted by numbers" - you can hear it here



The sound I'm trying to recreate is best heard during the verse, when the vocals first join and when the bass is most prominant.

I have a bass, a Saffire LE, cubase and a PODXT (not a bass pod).

Any ideas?

well it looks like he's using something like a fender precision bass with a pick. you tried using a pick?
