I used to have that area code. Then they split it and I had 941. Then I moved to Missouri :P

Cradle of Filth has one of the worst vocalists in the world, and I say that as a fan.
I've seen them live and was fully completely dissapointed in the performance.

Thx a lot for all the responses. I.ve convinced myself after many opinions saying that they do not use effects. I.m not a particular black metal fan, but i wanted to use such a segment of voice in of my tracks and thought of making my job easier by using some nasty effects on the vocals.

In fact, lot of people DO USE effects on their black/death vocals, but mostly during recording. But it's just the ordinary things - filters, EQ's, comps - just to add some ripping or meat. If you want me to, I can interrogate a friend of mine who is a kick-ass musician and vocalist, and pretty good sound designer as well. Have a look at http://myspace.com/essenceofexistence

Check Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, and Napalm Death for the real deal. These guys uses ZERO distortion effects. Only the usual EQ, Compressors and etc.. . And they are proud of it... I remember seeing on the album cover of a band that i don't remember the name, a disclaimer stating that they don't use any effects on the vocals...

Peace,

Roger

We're talking about black metal, not death metal. But yeah, the idea is right. :hihi:

i usually, don't use effects when doing black metal/grindcore.... but i've been belting lyrics my whole life... i actually learned how to harmonize before i learned to talk..... so yeah.... um.... it's really up to you man..... learn how to growl and gutpuke with out gagging or having those dry heaves in your lungs.... or making your hangy ball tickle yourself into a good mood.... (there's something to be said for cheap cigarretts and cheaper whiskey for vocal training.... but thats another thread)..... just do it.... get these two records = Mayhem - Deathcrush, and the live one Mayhem - Live in Leipzig..... learn how to sing pure f**king armegeddon. actually, hold on, i'll chekc to see if the link is still up on the site...

And you gotta hold the mic right... cup your hand around the "head" of the mic and put it directly against your mouth... this also helps to "crapify" the sound slightly and insure that every vocal nuance is going into that damn mic, whether it likes it or not! :hihi:

CM possesses good, natural ability but his mic technique is lacking... Mic-stands are for pussies!

But this anonymous putz has excellent mic-holding skills...

Smoking does not help your scream any. It builds up tar in your lil' ol' talk box and makes it harder to open...so eventually, you become unable to do the scream/growl/whatever well because your throat is too tight by default. ;)
