Ok so I figured I would start an unofficial thread branching out from the new dx/dxi/mfx wrappers thread. Plus there is no XLUTOP section here :)...

Basically I'd like to focus on the MFX wrapper as the general consensus is that most of us can already access dx(i) in our hosts and I myself have been waiting a long time for something like this. As you can see in the previous thread I've been delving a bit into getting the MFX wrapper working in FL (so far) and have had some limited success (which is at least a bit reassuring).

I would like to try a few more MFXs, compile a list of supported/non supported MFXs (freeware and the ones I own) and perhaps expand the a list of supported hosts. Please be patient if I get a little OT or MIA as I'm flying through this under time limits. I will basically be posting everything I try (MFX & HOST). Please feel free to do the same at your convenience :D.

Thanks in advance,

Attempting to get MFX to work in FL7.. Nothing doing yet..

EDIT. Thank god that shell2vst tool has drag n drop.

EDIT. Ok I think I get it now.. you have to do a rescan (using S2V.exe each time you install a new plug) for FL to see the MFX plugin via the wrapper. What about MFX's with no installer? Trying a reg hack..

EDIT. Just tryed MusicLab's Looper (free MFX) does not load up.. BTW FL requests the plugin twice.. So yea you have to select it 2 times..

EDIT. !!!DO NOT HACK YOUR REG DIRECTLY PLZ!!!.. for MFX dlls with no installer:

- Put a copy of the dll into your C:\WINDOWS folder
- Go to run and type regsvr32.exe (plugin name).dll
regsvr32.exe /u (plugin name).dll to uninstall

You should get a RegSvr32 confirmation box. Press OK, go back to the MFX wrapper and rescan... Depending on how well this works in FL7 I will whip together a MFX to REG installer :D (it'l be a drag and drop installer I think)..

EDIT. 2 down.. paralogos LesLoups does not even show after being scanned into the MFX wrapper.. AARRRG.. I'm hoping that this is a FL thing. Going to try eXT next.. OOOP scratch that LesLoops now shows in the list and loads!! YESSS.. Showed up after I put another MFX in after the fact..

QTIP: To get a newly refreshed list to come up in FL use Reload current plugin to save some time..

EDIT. Got several MFX guis to load but only 1 plugin actually functions properly (nicolasfournel's scaleEnforcer)..

I'm going to call it a night and try again in the morning.. Still quite enthused about this working with some more indepth MFXs namely Image.. :)

I've successfully gotten MFX plugins to show up in both Bidule and eXT. I have, as yet, not figured out a way to get them to work at all.

In Sonar, MFX are run as off-line processes, aren't they (I only ever used them back in the old Cakewalk days, so I don't know how they work now)? Perhaps that's the problem I've run into, in that I've only tried to use them as live MIDI filters/generators, which hasn't seemed to work as yet.
Thanks for this info.. The fact that some work "offline" may explain why some do not function properly..

As it turns out, the offline thing isn't the case. Not sure what it is. I'll keep tying a few, see if I can get anything going.

Sounds good shamann.. Polac stated that some may or may not work.. Anyhow I'm going to now try the NTONYX ones in FL..

Don't you mean an *another* ? Honestly I just want inline MIDI sequencing and looping and effects in non supported hosts..

Excuse #1: Not enough time!
#2: "Nobody cares"
#3: Too lazy. ;)

I've wanted to do my own MIDI looper MFX for a while: see Excuse #1. ;)

I thought you used Bidule? It is very likely all you need for MIDI. Especially it's MIDI looper is really excellent, not only can it be set to any given bar rate, but it also lets you non-destructively adjust the start and end loop points.

It would be really nice if the proposed (by Lagrange?) MFX installer (for MFX that do not have an installer) will recognize and inform you if the MFX are properly installed already and to uninstall existing MFX and install a newer version.

A few of my mfx open with the GUI but do not function. So it would be nice to see if they are properly installed. I suspect that they are but not functioning due to compatibility issues.

Actually I should ask the question, if you can see the MFX GUI does it automatically mean that the MFX was properly installed and if it does not work it means that there is a compatibility issue? :help:

Good question I was thinking the same thing.. Maybe, maybe not..

EDIT: Installed the archived NTONYX MFX kit 1 I bought ages ago for Cakewalk.. So far Step Adjuster works exactly the same as in Cakewalk (which is amazing).. Trying the rest..

Well I got 2 out of 11 (free & $) MFX working. I'm not going to go any further until some of the compatibility issues are rectified. Looks like polac has his work cut out for him

I tried the MFX wrapper with Musiclab Slicydrummer in eXT 2 and it doesn't work. :(

Did anyone have any success with slicydrummer via the MFX wrapper (in energyXT 2 or any other VST host)?

Thanks

Slicy Drummer works great with FXPansion DR800, A killer combo.
Which rises the question: Why dont more VST plug devs work iy out the way FXPansion did?

Post

I just sent an email asking about the slicydrummer compatibility...
