Then.... If you have any money left buy Extreme Sample Converter and convert every sample set you have including your Sampletank sets to SFZ. It works great because the sets will be wave files with sfz definitions so you can say goodbye to proprietary sample formats.

i like my emulator x2. in fact the only thing which pisses me off is the preset/bank management. the sound and featureset are great, but it's not "instant gratification" what comes to my mind. if you can cope with its shortcomings (i.e. preset/bank management) you get a great tool which should beat ableton's sampler in almost any department, most surely speaking about filter quality and variety. so it would be a compliment to live. nevertheless, check out the alternatives, too, as always!

Kontakt 2 . I like to just load 'em up and start playing/composing,too.Ramzy wrote:Hi,
I recently got a laptop with an E-mu 1616m and I'm going to be using it as an "instant gratification" workstation; meaning I'm going to focus on ENJOYING my music making instead of breaking my head trying to get everything perfect (as I usually do).
Kontakt 2 is where it's at for software samplers/romplers.Ease of use, sound quality,stability...K2 is where it's at.

As it sounds like you're kinda new to this, I suggest you spend a few days downloading all the demos you can find, then spend at least an hour with each, to see which ones float your instant gratification boat.Ramzy wrote:Hi,

When it comes to instant fun tools, no-one here can tell what will work for you. Do the research for yourself, you'll be happier for it.

Get stylus rmx. I make hiphop for a living and almost every track has stylus on it. If you are going to use your own samples you should get kontakt. you can probably get version 1.5 for less than 100 bucks. These are two of the easiest to use vsts that i own and both will get you results quickly with very little cpu consumption.

I like it anyway...Itll cost you 99.00..they have a special offer on at the moment but itll run out fast..

its very easy to use, not sure why other users think its hard to get it, when it isn't. just check the demo version and you will see how easy it is, and the current promo gets you a lot of good sounds. they added something called 'the library' that helps on browsing presets.

I think what they're saying is that it comes with a massive sound bank but that a very large number of presets are substandard.Menthorian wrote:+1lotus2035 wrote:WusikStation V3??

I couldn't be bothered verifying this myself as nearly all presets I use are based on 3rd party soundsets I've purchased. Maybe I'm just strengthening the argument *shrug*
Actually when W3 went out with the 2Gig collection it came with ElectroWusik which I really did think was a very good soundset. And for a while the purchase came with Viral Outbreak which also is a very good soundset.
I'm not 100% sure what it comes with now.

This is exactly what I was going to say, but you've done all the typing for me! So I guess I'll just have to say "+1"dougsyo wrote:Given what you've said so far, I'd say to install Sampletank since you already have it and are familiar with it.
Of the samplers/romplers I have (K2, DimPro, Wusik and ST2, each with third-party sounds), DimPro is my "go to rompler", with Sampletank being my first alternative. I consider DimPro and Sampletank to be complementary, although there's obviously some overlap. Both are RAM-based players (as opposed to Kontakt, Halion, and other streaming players). DimPro has more "synth-y capabilities" to put on top of the samples, but it can be used as a straight rompler.
Another choice is to install Sampletank, then pick up a crossgrade to Sonik Synth 2 for additional sounds (using either its own GUI, or ST2).

I also agree with Guru over Stylus for hip-hop, though neither really nail it...Guru's a lot closer. Stylus is a very specialized app and workflow; personally I don't like it, but many do. Either way, it's not really good for hip-hop beats except in Kit Mode, and in that mode you can't add your own samples (which would have to be REX'd anyways with Stylus).
