Hi,

I am looking for information on some sounds from Tangerine Dream. These are the sounds:

1. A 'metallic, tearing' sound (like a 'hacksaw') used throughout the track Mothers Of Rain from Optical Race and also in the middle part of Cliffs Of Sydney from Le Parc.

2. A 'haunting, wailing' sound used on Dominion from Logos Live and at the end of Yellowstone Parc from Le Parc to counter Claire Torrie's vocal on that track.

I would like to know how they did it (maybe someone knows what technology was used) and how I could recreate it.

For sound [1] I guess it's a combination of ring mod, sync and filter resonance, but I haven't been able to make this sound myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well, the sound in example 1 is most likely an FM sound.
It's got a very well crafted envelope which sounds like a filter sweep, but it isn't.
And it makes sense, as the signature sound of Optical Race is FM (with PPG most likely as well).

For example 2, I'd need to dig out my old Logos cassette which I can't find
(am I that old ?!?

)
