Need help with SR-202 mapping

How would I map the different samples of a SR-202 kit to specific MIDI notes? I've been looking through the docs and through a few web pages, but haven't found anything yet. Perhaps I just overlooked something

i believe you start at C3 ...
then up for 16 consecutive notes ...

Okay, but is it possible to remap an SR-202 drum kit to a completely different set of MIDI notes?
For example, I have some drum tracks that were programed with General MIDI in mind, and I'd like to remap the SR-202 samples to accomodate these GM tracks. I realize that the GM drum map has many more drums than the SR-202 can play at once. I don't expect to cover the whole GM drum map with the SR-202. I just want the ability to move, for example, a triangle sample to the same MIDI note that GM would use for a triangle.
I also have drum tracks that were programed with other synths in mind, and likewise, I'd wish to move the allocation of the SR-202 samples to match the same notes used by these other synths.
Thanks,
McLilith

when i read the furnished materials , i came away with the impression
that you cannot do what you appear to want to do ...
i would address further inquires to muon support as they may have a suggestion ...
as a work around , ( and what i have done ) , i would edit the midi
file in a piano roll , and re-locate the note to the appropriate sr-202
pad ...
or ... use the DS-404
good luck ...

Yes, that's what I've done in the past, but it's tedious. I don't tend to compose using the SR-202, so my drum mappings don't usually match the SR-202 at all. Sometimes only one of the 16 drums gets triggered (usually the bass), sometimes none of the SR-202 drums trigger at all.as a work around , ( and what i have done ) , i would edit the midi
file in a piano roll , and re-locate the note to the appropriate sr-202
pad ...
It would be much easier to remap the 16 samples in the SR-202 kit, than to remap a whole MIDI track.
Maybe I'll just start writing custom DS-404 kits, and move away from the SR-202. Now, if only the DS-404 could import the samples from SR-202, that would be nice. The mapping could then be edited in the DS-404. There are a lot of SR-202 kits out there already, and not nearly as many DS-404 drum kits. (Unless I've been looking in the wrong places.)

Could I offer another solution? Not to upset Dave(Lord knows I would neeeeever do that
) but why not use the freeware Linplug RMF for your drums? It can load stereo samples and you can freely assign midi notes as well. You can multi layer samples and with all the free drum samples to download you should be able to duplicate almost any SR202 kit.The RMF does not have the synthesis capabilites of the SR202 but for straight sample playback it works a treat. It will keep you busy until Neutron is released if you live that long.Just kidding Dave you know I love you man.

If you use any of our kits from the patch area, I doubt something as simple as RM-F is going to meet your needs at all. We like to make extensive use of SR202's synthesis capabilities
Anyway, to answer the question: no, you can't change the MIDI note assignments on SR202. The best thing to do is make your own kits with the right sound on the right pad - or, in your sequencer, split the drum part onto seperate tracks and use the track transpose feature. In Cubase you could also use Logical Edit.
Personally, I always keep my individual drum hits on seperate tracks in the sequencer, makes things simple when building up the tune and if I want to try a different VST instrument playing a particular sound its very straightforward. I'd recommend it as a way of working, especially as a lot of sequencers support folder tracks these days too.
TachyonP (a forthcoming Muon product) can import SR202 kits amongst other things, but it would build the keymap based on the original mapping. Since TachyonP doesn't have any keymapping display you'd be stuck with the same problem. Maybe we'll take a look at doing some kind of import wizard or something. Neutron would be able to do it no problem though.
Hope this helps

Glad you like it - and there's plenty more where those came from. We've also been busy preparing some more BB (bread and butter) patches too, and of course we've collected over 1gig of material for our own sample CD....now if only I could hire another ten programmers to get this stuff released on time (Teksonik:thanks for the muon download area and monthly patches ...
Cheers
