yesterday I received my new Alesis Photon X25 midi keyboard to use with my laptop so I can get out of the studio and take down some ideas out and about (well living room actually).
On plugging in the Photon x25 and loading in the supplied drivers, I soon realised how bad it worked. Actually bad is to a good word, shit would be better!
A simple usb connection is meant to supply audio, midi and power. It does all three but not good at all. In fact not only does it not work properly, it has hampered my laptop to a point that I have trouble starting windows up.
Sometimes, the laptop just shuts down completely when the photon is plugged in or taken out (usb).
I've been using the supplied Cubase LE software as my Cubase Studio 4 resides in my desktop upstairs in the studio. There is no latency option with the photon and on playing everything just breaks up till it eventualy crashes.
Earlier today I installed another asio driver (Asio4All) after reading nightmare comments and reviews on the x25. It has made it a little more stable than Alesis's native asio but still far from good.
Does anyone know of another asio driver I could try to put in to make it even more stable?
If not, Im seriously thinking of sending this thing back. It was only the atrraction of audio/midi and power in one than made me go for this keyboard. I'm starting to think that was a mistake....
