----I'm wanting to change out 2 samples from a Viena soundfont, and just drop 2 new ones in, (one stereo sample, it splits them into L/R mono samples I guess), and have the new samples use all the presets that are already made. Can anyone explain how to do this in the most straight forward way possible ? I have been able to import the new samples, but they do not seem to replace the old ones, and I cannot find a simple way to swap them out and have all the presets work with the new samples.

----Bump, anyone got any tips for me ? :)

Hmm, after reading the help files, and poking around on the Viena Gui, it looks like maybe presets can be *copied* into new instruments. Is that the only way to do what I want to do then ? Sorry to sound lazy, I just want to do something very simple, and after 2 very frustrating 40 minute sessions of not getting anywhere with it, I don't want to go back and have a 3rd, so I'm seeking tips first eh. Surely someone around here has done this before no ?

Are you using the latest version (2.4)..?

There's a 'Sound Browser' somewhere - I think it's under the File menu - which allows you to drag 'n' drop files from a HD into a soundfont.

----No, I'm using Viena v 0.500 http://www.synthfont.com/

If your new samples have the same names as the old ones you should be able to just add them into the sample pool and they will replace the old samples. All programming in the instrument and preset sections will be retained.

If you need to use different names for the new samples you will need to add them to the sample pool, then add them to the desired instrument, manually do the mapping, envelope programming etc. and delete references to the old samples.

If the old samples are mono and the new samples are stereo you are pretty much stuck with the second method because viena
will change the stereo sample to filename(L) and filename(R).
If you're editing a drumkit you'll probably only need to setup keyranges, panning and maybe velocity so its pretty easy.

KVRist,
**** This is an old post, I hope you still get this reply.

---> I used Viena to extract all the Mellotron samples from a soundfont file. The samples all seriously needed cleaning up. Now I want to replace the entire set of samples in the soundfont, same sample file names as before.

--> I tried what you mentioned, adding the same sample (same .wav filename) in Viena, but it creates another sample with the same name, doesn't just replace the old one. HELP!

**** I EQ'd the extracted soundfont samples to remove the excessive hum and low Hz tape noise. Now I want to replace all the old samples in the soundfont file. Later, I need to also tune the out of tune tape samples. So I'll need to do this again.
-->So I need a quick way to replace the entire sample set, (49 total samples), again, without having to painstakingly reedit the presets for the new file. Just want Viena to swap out the old samples for the new ones, however you do that.
