I need to sample an old school sound and then play it back through a sampler, so that it doesn't sound "cartoony", when I play higher notes than the note its been sampled on. I believe resynthesis is one option. But with technology going at the rate it is, there must be something VST wise that can do this with ease, surely.

So, how do I do this (the sampler bit)? And what recommendations do you have for VST's that can do this? I have been told Chameleon 5000 is an option for resynthesis.

C5000 does indeed do resynthesis.

Other options include DiscoDSP Vertigo, Virsyn Cube, and possibly White Noise Additive.

If you're looking at samplers, rather than resynthesis, Kontakt can do this with it's Time Machine algorithm - repitch a note without affecting it's length or tonality. SampleTanks's Stretch function does something similar, although it's sample import is a bit basic. I'm sure there are others as well...

Yep Kontakt does a pretty good job with the Time Machine option
