Guitar Suite CM - Soldano X-88

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to try Soldano X-88 plugin which comes bundled with Guitar Suite CM (Computer Magazine version). I would be interested to hear what your impressions are, and also about the quality of modeling since this software seems to have been made by the same person who made Simulanalog suite.

For the style of metal (death/black) i'm playing - JCM900 wins.
And the best is Revalver mkII demo #1 (fully functional, but no saving of presets + extremely annoying reminders popping out everytime i touch any control which will force me to buy it as soon as i'll pay off my guitar).

R II = 9/10
JCM900 = 8/10
Slo X88 = 6/10

Does this Overloud version add a poweramp/speaker sim?

Btw, Juicy77 was modeled after the x88 as well.

And Juicy is better IMHO because you can disengage its cab sim and use an impulse or Revalver 2 cab sim instead.

Mutant, by your posting history, you seem to know your stuff when it comes to high gain. So this mediocre rating, is it because you don't like the emulation or the tone simply doesn't fit your style ?

Here's a question...

Does the other Simulanalog stuff have something in to model the cabinet? Like for the JCM900 I mean?

How, if not, does it get even a moderately decent tone? Has anyone ever TRIED an amp sim w/o a cabinet on it? "Gross" doesn't BEGIN to describe it.

Can one be put after the JCM to have it sound good-meaning-better does anyone know? (I am not going to be at my music PC for 4 or 5 hours to try myself...)

I wonder what sticking the JCM inside of RV MKII is going to sound like...I already do this with Simulanalog's Tube Screamer and Boss distortion VST's...it's quite a monster rig with those inserted as generic VST's.

I never tried putting a whole amp head sim, though...

Both Simulanalog ampsims feature a cab sim. However putting an extra one after them can give interesting results.

Thanks for the review. I'm not familiar with the actual Soldano preamp itself, and I don't know what it's capable of, but from a posting I found somewhere on the web, I found out that the Soldano X88 amp has three channels.

I am really interested in clean and mildly overdriven tones, and would like to find whether this emulation is suitable for these kind of tones, or whether it's more geared toward high gain tones. When I say clean, I'm not thinking of Marshall or solid-state clean tones, but more Fender blackface and tweed as well as Vox AC cleans (I understand that each of these amps has a distinctly different sound).

My first impression is very positive.

This is a high gain setup, there is no usable clean headroom at all.
It is NOT a "roaring" high gain but rather a very smooth singing high gain.
For a guy like me, who is not into heavy high gain tones, this is great.
Metal heads will probably like it less but I am sure you can boost it "sky high" with a few pedals in front of it.



Ohh.... and it's the first Simulanalog plug that can accept stereo input with stereo output
Must be a hint of "what's coming" once they release the commercial version.

Definitely NO Fender or VOX tones in there.
The article in the magazine says "to be released this year"
but I wouldn't count on it.

First they have to release the reverb they are working on.
According to their site it's in Beta since March with a release date of "still 2nd quarter 2007"

Then there is the agreement announcement with Novation (see link)
