You should also consider the Terratec Phase x24 FW. The most underrated Firewire interface of the last two years. Stable drivers, Vista and 64-bit ready, SPL-preamps (two, also both Hi-Z inputs), inserts, Cirrus logic-converters, great sound.
Pretty flawless unit.

I got burned by Terratec on support and drivers for the DMX6Fire. I really hope they've improved since then...
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

dmx6fire and some older terratec cards were a nightmare. i think the new fw devices are supposed to be pretty tight, at least i haven't heard any complaints from the few friends who use them. no idea about quality of support but the drivers & compatibility are apparently light years better.

i had a fireface400 on test for a few weeks. i think i'm buying one, fell in love with the sound, compact size and the matrix mixer.
never stop loving music.

Can't comment on the support, because i haven't needed it up till now :D . The drivers are very good, low latency and good routing possibilities. This unit hasn't been marketed very aggressively but it is supposed to be on par or even better then the Fireface 400 (see this review, it's in German though)!

hmmm, seems like there might be a problem with getting the Firface 400. I might have to choose the MOTU Ultralite or the MOTU 828mk11 - any comments on using them with WinXP?

MOTU Ultralite works OK with WinXP, not as well as it does with Mac OS X. I've had to "Freeze" some output in Sonar to be able to work with in under WinXP. Didn't need to do that with Logic Pro 7 under Mac OS X. But this might be just a WinXP OS limitation and nothing to do with the UltraLite drivers.

Other than that the Ultralite is a bargain. Like I said be sure to upgrade the firmware.
