It's okay. It's just your opinion. I disagree. Not completely. I think they could have stayed more artsy but they chose to go more commercial. Do I love every song? I think I liked every song they did up through Abacab. After that it is more select ones (usually the less commercial ones). But, that's just my opinion. Genesis has millions of fans with different opinions but they did alright.

Anyway, the show will have a little bit for everyone. It will be a good show and I want to catch it in multiple pl;aces. They do some classic songs on this tour.

I really don't mean to be so negative, and of course this is just my opinion. It's just that something that would have been a major event in my life 30 years ago, I'll probably skip. I guess you could say that about many things.

Ah well, never say never - they're too great of a band to do a bad show. Speaking of which, do you know who the sidemen are this time around? I remember a rumor back in the day, that Alphonso Johnson was originally slated to step in on bass after Hackett left. That would have been interesting.

I Squids, i'm gambling on a Carpet Crawler encore with a Peter's presence and Phil Peter duet on Rome gig on 14 july. Peter has an amazing house (where i went once), in Sardinia, 150 km far from Rome but by the other side of Tyrrenian Sea, and he'll be playing here in Italy from 2 to 6 july, then from 9 to 20 july he will probably be on vacation...

Duke's not a bad record by any means - but to me it was the first Phil Collins and... record. But I know what you mean - I've got more than a few friends who think TOTT and W&W would fall into that category as well. :lol:

Wind & Wuthering was my first exposure to Genesis. And while I love the Gabriel era stuff, W&W and TOTT are very special albums to me (along with Tony's Curious Feeling and Mike's Smallcreep's Day). I wish Genesis would produce more material in that style, with Hackett of course!

I can't stand listening to a curious feeling though - I hate the singer's voice and even more so that shite dominant e-piano sound... :-o

Funny you should say that - I've heard more people complain about the singing on Smallcreep's than Curious. I like both quite a bit, but agree that the CP70 is/was an acquired taste.

I think in retrospect, Tony made some dubious choices in gear after W&W. Basically, the Hammond, RMI, Tron, etc. all were replaced with the Yamaha and some Polysynths - maybe Korgs. Squids would know. Anyway, instruments with a very unique character seemed to be jettisoned in one fell swoop

Speaking of technology, hands up - who thinks "Home By the Sea" would be an even better song with real drums instead of the Simmons?

Weird - Noel McCalla is a fantastic singer - imo his unobstrusive soul made a nice addition to Rutherford's stuff. If you meant 'acting very strange' I knew what you were referring to though. :hihi:

I quite like the cp70 ocassionally, just not the way Banks totally overused it, smeared with delay/whatever.

And yes, I think you are right if you try to say that doesn't appear to have any taste regarding his choice of sounds whatsoever. :lol: I think his old Genesis-stuff just sounds so good because back then there wasn't that much stuff he could abuse. :hihi:

He is really my favourtie Genesis composer/song-writer but while I have all his solo-stuff I can hardly listen to any of it without cringing.

Agreed - he composed most of my favorite Genesis songs. I think that's what I like so much about A Curious Feeling - the compositions are in the same vein as the Wind & Wuthering era stuff. I think it's definitely his best album - really like the cut "Somebody Else's Dream". But yeah I have to admit cringing on some of the other stuff he's done. "Still" has some good moments also.
