just because vintage synths lists a group of artists who "supposedly" used it doesn't mean that it's a good synth.pepelogu wrote:

"The Juno-106 is one of the most loved and used synthesizers by professionals and hobbyists alike! William Ørbit, Uberzone, Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), Autechre, BT, Vince Clarke, Moby, 808 State, Underworld, Leftfield, Fluke, Josh Wink, Todd Terry, Depeche Mode, Eat Static, Biosphere, The Prodigy, The Shamen, Bushflange, Cirrus, Astral Projection, Apollo 440, Faithless, Union Jack, Computer Controlled, Pet Shop Boys, Sneaker Pimps, Erasure, Freddy Fresh, Rabbit in the Moon, Kevin Saunderson, Jimmy Edgar, Laurent Garnier, Vangelis, and the Chemical Brothers have used this synth extensively! It belongs in your studio! "
Obviously anyone is entitled to their opinion, just wanted to point out yours is in grave minority. The Juno kicks a**, lame soft-emus don't.
your argument holds no weight. even if all these artists used it, it was most likely last on their list to go to. for instance, Depeche Mode: i know for a fact that they had an arsenal of synths at their disposal - moogs, ppgs, emulators, JUPITER 8, etc... so really, the Juno 106 was NOT their go to synth.

my feelings about this are similar to my feelings about the new ARP Axxe plug in by timeware or whatever their name is - i just don't understand why make an emulation of a plug in of a synth that never stood out as really good sounding. there are so many more worthwhile things to emulate in my opinion than an Arp Axxe or a Juno 106. unless of course, the developer isn't skillful enough to emulate a Jupiter 8, a Rhodes Chroma, or a Pro-One etc... that's just my opinion though.

Analogue or digital – which is better? There's only one way to find out... FI-I-IGHT!!!

and anyway couldn't it be only, regardless of the splitting hair thread about the Juno106 features and value, that the developer only actually LIKED that synth and tried to make an emu just to allow some other users to actually use it? just a guess eh!

this isn't their studio though. this is in santa barbara, and the juno is shown amongst many other synths. in fact, there's another picture of a Nord Lead right next to where Martin Gore is sitting.Modeler wrote:Oh, you'd be surprised...dirty oscillators wrote:Depeche Mode: i know for a fact that they had an arsenal of synths at their disposal - moogs, ppgs, emulators, JUPITER 8, etc... so really, the Juno 106 was NOT their go to synth.
i'm not saying they didn't use it. but i would bet my first born child that it definitely wasn't or isn't their main synth.

i'm not complaining that he made it. i think it's great that he did. there are people that think the Ensoniq ESQ-1 is a piece of trash, but i happen to like it so i downloaded the free SQ-80 plugin recently.dreaddd wrote:and anyway couldn't it be only, regardless of the splitting hair thread about the Juno106 features and value, that the developer only actually LIKED that synth and tried to make an emu just to allow some other users to actually use it? just a guess eh!![]()

i gave up my ESQ-1 not too long ago and i already miss it.
i've used a Juno-106 before and i wouldn't trade my Jupiter 6 for one even if i was offered money on top of the trade. i've seen people pay a little less for a Juno-106 than what i paid for my Jupiter 6 back in '98... that's hype for you.

I must agree that I love Juno-106 for synthpop basslines. So punchy and has good lowend and fits into mix easily. I have not tested the Flintlock Juno, but so far I have yet to find software which would sound as good as the real one. Good basses are what the emulations have failed everytime really miserably.LauriT wrote:106 was always a cheap consumer synth but I still find it my go-to synth for sequenced bass. I have plenty of synths (analog and digital) but the 106 just makes the best synthpop bass among them.
Here's quick sample how the chorus affects Juno's bass sound. First is dry juno, then two clips of chorused juno. Infact here the other chorus clip is the Juno-106's own chorus unit, and another one is software chorus called Vintage Chorus from Orion Platinum (7.5). Could not resist putting it there as it was mentioned the Flintlock Juno lacked the chorus and the real thing has it's own character which not many software choruses can recreate.Granted, Juno's chorus is a big part of its sound, and I actually got the Boss CE300 so that I can use that chorus on my other synths as well.

You tried MiniMogueVA? Some of the best bass I've heard from a VST, just balls-to-the-wall thick sticky bassMark Vera wrote:I must agree that I love Juno-106 for synthpop basslines. Amazing considering it's free and SE. I'll post a sample of something I'm working on tonight.

This ambient piece made me buy a 106 for the second time. Loved the mood and the sounds (especially the bass). It's all 106.

A very meditative, peaceful tune. Thanks for sharing. It just reaffirms that you can make music with just about anything. It just takes some patience and imagination.lynx wrote:This ambient piece made me buy a 106 for the second time. Loved the mood and the sounds (especially the bass). It's all 106.

The 106 is a flagship synth of late 90's DnB lines. It might not be that fantastic for old man typical subtractive synth sounds but its saw wave through its chorus and then through a distortion pedal has actually produced reports of people dying.
