Now now - I didn't quite go that far. I think he just needed PG and Hackett to bring out the best in him. The guy has written some astoundingly beautiful and profound music - maybe not so much lately.

As far as keyboards, I do mean that he kinda seemed to go overboard with the CP70 and generic synth patches starting with ATTWT. New Synth overkill was common with Progsters from about 1978 on. Some of the keys from that period actually sound good to me in retrospect - the GX1 and CS80 come to mind - but they were horribly overused and abused.

I sense another admonition coming. :(

You mentioned sending off Mike's MXR M-117 Flanger in the Amplitube 2 thread, also. What other pedals of his did you send off to IK? Any AT2 development news you can report on this front yet?

I have Mike's Boss Overdrive pedal as well and I am working on getting the Shaftsbury Duo Fuzz. Pretty cool huh? We'll see. In the meantime the Hendrix Edition has some serious fuzz boxes to check out though!

BTW Dave,

What do you think on Tony's Los Endos synth sound on VH1 performance? From what I heard from Youtube files (although they do not sound very good missing a lot of nuances), it seems to sound dense with a good modulation in it. You already attend the first rehearsals last October, so you can tell how Tony worked on it. Did he use some Sonik Synth sounds to have that rendition?

P.S. My God. Now I heard really everything. CP 70's and "generic synth" like ARP Quadra's bashing. :o  . I could understand DX7 but those ones :?

I think if you read the posts carefully, you'll see that no one "bashed" any of those keyboards, just complained about their overuse. I happen to like both of the keyboards you mention.

and the same goes for me of course (please read the posts properly before you reply to them)

all true I think :-D (I must admit I haven't even heard just one note of his rochestral album yet )

b.t.w.: the main theme from his Quicksilver-soundtrack (Smilin' Jack Casey) imo is a fantastic track even though totally untypical for him - great sounds on that one as well... :-D

I think it's likely he's using the Proteus loaded with some Emu samples for that one. But, you never know. I mean I could ask Geoff but there are a zillion other things to talk about as well and they're busy! I didn't see the VH1 thing... but I want to. Maybe I will check on youtube for it. Did Keane do a Genesis song too? I missed this whole thing. I don't really watch TV.

Interesting Dave, thanks! However, to really find out we have to wait for the tour kick-off (or however VH 1 airing). VH 1 thing on youtube is not a TV boroadcast at the moment. The latter will be aired in a week now.
Furthermore Daryl yesterday pointed out in a radio interview that the set will have a running time between 2 1/2 - 2 3/4, so that they're actually willing to play all the main instrumental stuff rehearsed plus (I suppose) the couple of "surprise never played" songs.
He also said that some songs will change from concert to concert.

P.S. Oh...and Keane played That's All (I didn't hear and/or saw that any snippet of performance though).

This begs the question - what synth was originally used for that part? The credits just say "synthesizers". Would it have still been the Pro Soloist maybe? Now I should think we could all agree that that thing was one helluva keyboard. If somebody did a VST of that, I'd lose it.

Yeah it was a prosoloist. A VST of that would be nice. Not likely but nice. (only Genesis fans would buy it... or maybe Zawinal and Moraz fans).

Yeah, you're probably right - but then again, I think I remember Steve at Hollow Sun had some Pro Soloist patches available - I could be wrong.

Apropos of nothing, it always struck me as very funny that the Video for "That's All" has Tony playing a B3, while on the record it's probably a Prophet or a Synclavier II. Whenever bands came to town, I used always to try and sneak a peak at their gear, and I think I remember those being in his set up at that time. But you never know - I have a vague memory from waaaay back - I saw Tony's rig and what I thought sounded like an RMI, turned out to be a Hohner Pianet - painted white, no less!

Now I digress.

Thanks for the link, Dave - oh well, can't miss them after seeing this. I'll just plan a few smoke breaks. Assuming they come to ATL at some point. Thanks for knocking some sense back into me.

Almost everything was done with IK software and Sonic Reality sounds. We used AmpliTube and Jimi Hendrix Edition, Ampeg SVX, CSR, TRackS, SampleTank, Sonik Synth 2, Studiophonik, SampleTron and did part in Logic and part in Cubase.
