hey guys.
digging this older track from 1999 i think "you give me something".
it's got this really nice funky sound driving it along with the nice bass and rhythm guitar. not sure if it's some kind of vocoded voice (singing something other than words) or a vocoded guitar, or just something else completely

another forum also pointed out it might be some sort of vocal format filter but i wasn't 100% what they were talking about, i'm not overly knowledgeable. they recommended trying some plugin called automat or something but i'm on a pc, i found it was mac only

anybody who has some words of advice or knowledge, how i can go about achieving something like this, it would be much appreciated Smile

have a wicked day.

Sounds like a voice vocoded WITH a wah-wah'd guitar to me? Or just a wah-wah'd guitar through a talkbox maybe.

anymore pointers about how i can go about achieving this sound? (i'm using a pc rather than a mac!)

p.s: just found something sort of similar, but sounds like more of a guitar effect, i like the sound of this too but this sounds very much like a guitar where the "you give me something" sample sounds much less like a guitar and more like a vocal or synth.

My guess is it's a guitar played through a formant-type filter set to LFO its vowel; the phase is too rigid to be a vocoder or talkbox.

I've seen the post you asked that on, and I'm fairly sure the guy's right - it's about the same time th track was released, which makes sense..

Some alternatives
free - Oli Larkin's formant filter http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1085.html
cheap - tone2's BiFilter http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2062.html $49
expensive - mhc's Vox fx http://www.mhc.se/software/plugins/voxfx/ $179 part of bundle

I remember another free with the vowels in a pentagonal fashion, but I can't find it in the database at the moment

I'd go for the BiFilter/FilterBank2 vowel banks followed by your favourite subtle chorus for that guitar sound.

hope that helps! :)

also mda talkbox perhaps (its free so why not) - its a fun toy

Was it this one?

Tobybear Vowel Synth

It can be used as both a synth and a MIDI controlled effect.
