Hi everyone, I was just wondering if someone could help me out here.
I'm about to invest in a Korg MicroX synth (or similar), and it can be used as a sound module by connecting a larger MIDI keyboard to it. I currently own a big 88-key 'portable' Yamaha keyboard (DGX-505) which I would like to use with it, but the only way it transfers MIDI data is to a computer via USB.
Is there any way in which I could do essentially the opposite of what a USB-MIDI interface does, ie. is there a USB out-to-MIDI cable?? or will I have to buy a MIDI interface for my PC and do all sorts of nonsense with that first?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

I don't think there are such cables. So with this keyboard you're stuck to connecting it to a PC and in there route the midi stream to the midi out of a soundcard, which is connected to the MicroX.
It would be simpler if you had a keyboard with plain midi connections...

2x2 midisport
http://www.cdrecordingsoftware.com/img/usb2x2_med.jpg
gives you two midi outs via a seperate usb, this means any midi you can send to your host(most hosts allow this) can then be sent out via this.

There are some interesting products on this page..

They all speak of being connected to computers' USB sockets, but I don't see why they shouldn't work connected to USB gear. You might have to suck-it-and-see.

Why don't you just connect both the Yamaha and the MicroX to the computer using USB ?

Yes, you can stick them into the PC. But the OP wants something that goes into the USB socket of his Yamaha keyboard. And USB isn't peer2peer...CinningBao wrote:There are some interesting products on this page..

Yeah it is a nasty problem I think i'm just going to have to use the PC all the time or just put up with the microX's 25 keys. Ah well.
