a few questions about the MPC 2500...

ok, lemme start first off by saying, ive never worked with and sequencing/sampling hardware before...im new to it....i can tell u just about anything software-wise when it comes to music...but this is a whole new thing here...im sure its just about the same, but im still having some difficulties...anyone who can help, id appreciate it a lot...
a friend of mine bought this thing 2 years ago, and doesent have the patience to learn it, so he just dropped it off at my house, and im going to have it for a few months till he takes it back, so i wanna utilize it while i have it....my problem is, theres no manual...he cant find it...
first question is, how do i put sounds from my computer, onto it??? i hooked it up through the USB and everything, loaded some sounds onto the MPC's memory card...and now, i know that i need to load it into the MPC's ram to use it, but how do i do this??? also, can u use regular wav files on it?? he has wav files on the memory card, but im not sure if theyre normal wav files or not...
my second question is, i know that you can hook a midi keyboard into it...i want to use my XBoard49 with it...i plugged it in, but its not doing anything, how do i activate it from within the MPC???
third question, im only getting sound out of the right channel when i hook it through my mixer from the stereo outputs....is there some settings that need to be switched or something??? if i plug the headphones in, i get sound from both ears.....and if i hook other things into the turntable, both channels work....kind of confusing....but probably something simple to fix?
and one more question, i wanna sample my vinyl with the mpc...would i be better off sampling it with cooledit, and then loading it to the MPC, or is it just as easy to do it using only the MPC??
thanks in advance to anyone who can help...

I also have the mpc2500, and like you have only had it for 5 minutes. However, I'll try and help...
1. Load the samples to the card or the hard disk (if you have one installed). Then use mode+pad 2 (Load). See page 107 of manual for more. The mpc loads and saves wav files.
2. For connecting midi devices see page 24 (and 53) of the manual - too detailed to explain here but easy to follow the manual.
3. Read ch.14 (page 91) of the manual to check the main mixer settings on both samples and sequences (songs). You may be listening to mono samples from the pads that are panned accordingly. If you can't find anything, check (in the mixer) that certain sounds haven't been routed to one or more of the 8 outputs as opposed to the main out. Failing this, there could be a hardware problem but make sure you check all of the settings first.
4. It easier to sample directly to the mpc - after all, this is what it is meant for. Check out ch.11 (page 55) of the manual on how to do this. If you decide to use cool edit for the job you may as well not bother with the mpc as you can edit/assign effects to the sample and place it straight into a sequencer on the computer.
For what it's worth, in my opinion, the theory of sampling on an mpc is not much different to sampling on a pc (or mac). It's just the method that is different. I just find the mpc to be more fun and 'hands-on' than using a computer (plus it's got the prized mpc swing feature that everyone loves). However, that said, a decent software sampler, sequencer and midi drum trigger can give exactly the same results.
Hope this helps.

2. Your keyboard should automatically work but there have been certain keyboards (I think it was the M-Audio boards) that are known to not work or cause lockups with the 1000/2500. Check with the cats over at mpc-forums.com, because I have a 3000 so I don't know all the intricacies of the 2500.
4. Sampling is easier and facter in the 2500 than on a computer. Because after you sample, you gotta save a file export it to the MPC, etc... Sample editing is more powerful on your PC, and will be faster and easier on the computer, at least until you know the 2500 like the back of your hand.
Also, while you're at mpc-forums, ask about the JJ OS. You can thank me later about it.

1) after you load the samples onto the memory card press mode + pad 2 (load) to get to the load screen. You can use the "window" button to go deeper into the folders arrow keys to navigate.
2)The reason you're only hearing one side is most likely because the outputs on the MPC2500 are non switching balanced outputs. Use balanced TRS cords (which look like guitar cords but there are 2 black stripes on the end, not one) and everything will sound perfect. I suggest TRS to XLR, as they will have the cleanest hum free connection.
If it's not this then try pressing mode + pad 8 (mixer) and you will be in the mixer screen. Hit the pads you want to change the out put and at the top of each channel you can highlight the number and change it (with the data wheel) to say "ST." That means stereo out. This is not likely though, cause it's coming out stereo out of your headphones.
3)Hook up your midi keyboard to the mpc. Make sure you use the midi controller's external power suppply (if it has one) and you can use it stand alone with your mpc it will work immediately. If it is powered by usb you may have to
a)switch it to a special stand alone mode
or
b)use some computer host like pro tools or whatever to tell the midi out to be your x49 keyboard or whatever. Otherwise the midi out of your x49 is not even sending anything. It's wierd, cause some midi keyboards won't send midi out just cause the light is on if it's powered usb. The computer has to "enable" it to send midi notes.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. I highly recommened not posting here if you want serious studio tech help as a lot of these posters in here kind of well, lie a lot. I suggest going to the MPC forums. Just google "mpc forum."
An MPC is a simple thing and I can't believe kvr-vst nerds think it's "too complicated to write here." You see these nerds going on and on about plug in chanins and this and that frequency affector modulator crap and you'd think they would have the chops to tell you how to hook your mpc up.

sampling on the mpc is WAY easier and you dont have to LOOK at it you can press the button and HEAR it.

thats pretty much what i was thinkin....but was gonna keep it to myself....people start argfue'in over helpin u figure things out in the software part of the forum.....
but i ask a question here and peoples being arrogant givin me smartass replies, or tellin me the obvious....
appreciate u tellin me what u know about my questions...
the cords your talkin bout that look like guitar cords, any plugs like that ive always just used RCA cables with 1/4" convertors on them....and this is what im doin right now with it....is there something that makes it not work that way???
the cables your talkin bout are definitely neccesary??

yes rca cables are unbalanced. the 1/4" converters if you notice will have ONe black stripe on the tip, balanced ones will have two. RCA connections are always unbalanced, no matter what adapter you use. A lot of times you can use unbalanced cables on balanced outs, if they are switchable, but the mpc 2500 outs are NOT switchable, so they need balanced outs. If you look at the end of your heaphones 1/4" plug you will see two stripes. This is for stereo left and right. A balanced cable looks like this but it's not the same cable, so dont use a headphone cable.
If you on the hiphop tip I suggest checking out glitch mob on my space as a heads up. Also, I found some timbaland studio vids on you tube that were fucken inspiring, not to mention a pete rock vid with his mpc. Stay in touch bro, good luck.
