Looking for a small controller, so likely 25 keys.

Im looking at the Ozone because its small, is an audio interface and has mic inputs. But I heard its a bit rubbish.

An audio interface is not majorly crucial since I have a PodXT acting as one. Problem with that is it only has 1 audio input, so swapping guitar and mic is pretty annoying.

If you advise against the Ozone. Id like a controller which doesnt need an external power supply when connected via USB, has knobs buttons and sliders

thanks

I'd recommend a Novation X-station if your budget can stretch a bit further. Features are listed on the advert in ebay which i've provided as a link below:
x-station for sale on e-bay
If you can find the newer version for cheap it also has automap which sounds a great idea but i've never used it. But I can vouch for the quality of x-station as a midi controller keyboard: nice action, aftertouch, loads of assignable faders/pots/buttons/xy pad and loads of connectivity + digital effects and good sounds. I could go on.

actually for specs it's better to go to novation direct:

I have both a Novation remote25 and a M-audio Ozone here.

The difference in portability is big. The Novation is almost double size. I love the ozone. The only thing that is missing is master volume. The sound quality is quite good, comparable to standard mid-range priced soundcards. I have used it live on big soundsystems. The stability is very good. No crashes. I have also noted that the ASIO drivers are very effecitent. I can play more VSTi instruments with this than I can on other soundcards.

X-Station is just a tad higher than my budget :p Its almost 3x the cost of an Ozone. Plus isn't a synth rather than just a MIDI controller?

No master vol on the Ozone? One of the best things about my PodXT is the big fat knob I can turn if the sounds get to loud. Theres always something! I suppose its not such a biggie. Is it possible to use it just as a controller and not an audio device? I would really like something that can run from USB or batteries.

I dont think it will run on usb power. That is a not good. It is the preamps that made the external powersupply necessary.

Oh , and I just discovered the new AKAI masterkeyboards today.
