[edit - idea reworked after initial post]
Thought this was a good time to request, as MIDI mapping is being added:

I would love an XT2 module (or XT2 VST) that looks very much like the MIDI mapping screenshot Jorgen posted
Image

but that you could define VST parameters to be a defineable SYSEX (or NRPN) string, to send SYSEX/NRPN (ability to save presets/fxp of course) to hardware (NRPN for Korg Electribes) for automation/sound presets (with program changes). VST wouldn't need knobs (XT2 sampler style), but the VST params '0-127 display controls' could be mapped with the new 'midi mapper' function of XT2.

You could control/automate hardware from XT2 (without having to record SYSEX/NRPN within XT2)

This module/VST could be used with:
1. mouse or scroll wheel
2. a generic midi controller/knob/slider box (when you define a 'midi mapping' to this VST-SYSEX/NRPN module)

to easily edit & automate our modern MIDI hardware synths (Waldorf, Studio Electronics, Access, Jomox etc.) with XT2.

Like in the screenshot, you could keep adding CC's (up to 127) to define CC-SYSEX/NRPN maps to your hardware.

Basically this would enable me to FINALLY have total control (& automation) of my studio, both software & hardware, creating templates & presets (sounds) for each hardware module/synth, along with the great features/workflow of XT2.

We could post templates & sounds to www.xt-user.com for different MIDI gear (I sure would for all my gear).

I guess anyone could create a VST with this functionality (to be used in XT2), using SE & DH MIDI Modules..
but the way Jorgen designs his modules is perfect, and it would complement the 'midi mapper' very well. Plus it would be nice to have it 'built-in' to be sure it works in Linux. Also a nice feature to get studios that also use hardware, using XT2.

+1!!!!!

NRPN is a big one!!

if we ever do get jog wheel support it wont only have a range of 128 ;)

:D

I just updated my idea (see top post) .. so I don't know if pwdm's '+1' still applies.

A logical extension of this idea is a SYSEX/NRPN-to-CC module/vst (or SYSEX/NRPN-to-VSTparam), so you can use use say your Electribe or Roland PG-800 programmer knobs (to name a few), as generic controllers for XT2.

A reverse of the above idea.

Now a lot of hardware have generic CC control modes.. but a nice-to-have when they don't :)

Also nice for when you want to use 14-bit or high res NRPN hardware to control VST.

With these 2 plugins/tools, you could do something useful like this:
use both the SYSEX/NRPN-2-CC input module, 'midi mapper', & VST-SYSEX/NRPN-output module to edit your Waldorf Q (for example) from the Q knobs (local control off), to control the VST (automate etc.), whcih in turns controls the hardware .. without having to record sysex/nrpn changes at all in the sequencer.. & being able to use all the automation/tools in XT2.

All said & done, for me, VST-SYSEX/NRPN-out module is what's important. :)

My +1 still applies, anything that improves the midi handling is fine with me. Started buying more hardware and the lack of sysex etc is a right pain in an otherwise great piece of software.

Thought I imagine hardware users are in the minority here.

I have tried making hardware controllers in sedit but the cpu hit is usually to high.

Same here! Been buying hardware again as they sound great along VST's. I really want to be able to integrate them with XT2 though .. that would change everything.

never heard of sedit! :)

Guess he means Synthedit. I tried that as well and gave up for the very same reason.
+1m for sysex etc.

Ok now I feel stupid :) didn't make the connect :hihi:

+1 for sysex support (for external synth control)

Don't think Jorgen has ever stated his position on this ... ?
