im looking for the best budget open headphones for mixing. i recently had a pair of great studio monitors but had to sell them because i need to be portable. i have a macbook and i am currently using the internal speakers...hah

so what i have decided to move just a few notches up is to get the m-audio transit and some half decent open headphones. do you think this setup will give me enough volume, without a headphone preamp?

i dont really want to spend more than 200AU on the headphones. also im looking for an online retailer (AU) where i can buy both these items.

any suggestions or links to reviews etc would be highly appreciated, thankyou!

KRK Rockit 5's are selfpowered, and very small is size but huge in sound.

While not the Rockit's equal, the Roland MA-8's are excellent and very inexpensive.

Headphone mixing is very inaccurate and potentially dangerous to your hearing. There are many very good small monitors that can be very portable for low cost.

The Grado SR60 are what you need. A class above the competition, especially in the bass. Comfortable as well.
