Hey, I'm psyched to see this library mentioned here: http://www.kvraudio.com/news/7272.html
This is a gorgeous instrument. Very nicely recorded, lovingly configured (and nicely user-configurable), beautiful-sounding...
Crucially, it is far more versatile in its virtual form than an actual zither would be "in real life" . . . Not only can it can be used quite effectively (as one might expect) in folk or Indo-Persian musics, it can be integrated nicely -- almost out of the box -- into rock, metal, glitch/electronica, new age, experimental, industrial, and so on.
Moreover, it is infinitely processable into an entire orchestra of appealing and innovative sounds -- for budget-conscious folks, you can get an awful lot of mileage out of it. With no more than a few seconds' processing, it is capable of conjuring up everything from Shivkumar Sharma's santur to Roy Montgomery's aethereal ambient guitar to Flying Saucer Attack's wall of noise, to Kraftwerk's bleeps and bloops, to the underwater organ sound in the beginning of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter."
I had the good fortune of beta-testing this library, so I'm pretty familiar with it. I've completed one relatively atmospheric piece, "The Moon Lies Black Upon the Straits," which is now up on the Wavelore "demo" page: http://wavelore.com/demos.shtml.
I will post a few more pieces in the next week or so, either there or on my own website http://alanb.org, documenting its use in the traditional sense -- and in the potentially-unexpected ways described above...
Wavelore American Zither -- much more than just a zither...

I've created a new little piece, showing the American Zither in a very different light.
