Roland XP-80
Roland XV-3080
Roland Fantom FA-76 (the early model with a floppy drive & monochrome screen)
I shall explain... I wrote a batch of patches & performances originally on a JV-1080 and was able to port them successfully into my XP-60. They're nothing great, but I do use them in my live material so they're somewhat 'mission critical' for me. These patches use the tempo-delay function in order to fake wavesequencing and create rhythmic pulsing.
In the last year I've felt a bit constrained by the 5-octave keyboard and began looking around for ways to use my patches with a wider keyboard. Thus my purchase of the XP-80, etc...
So what happens, or doesn't happen as the case might be?
On the XP-60 (and the JV-1080 before it) the patches with the tempo delay feature worked correctly. So for a patch using all 4 tones using tempo delay (and square wave lfo to modulate the volume) a typical patch would sound A B C D A B C D A B C D A B C D , etc... as long as you hold the key down.
On the XP-80 (and XV-3080 and Fantom FA-76) the tempo delay patches would sound A B C D and then on subsequent cycles all 4 tones will fire in unison losing the rhythmic flow and resulting in a very lumpy sound. Basically useless
I had a long correspondence with the tech support at Roland UK. Their verdict was the the XP-80 had an early version CPU that was unable to process the tempo delay function correctly. Which is why I tried out the newer XV-3080 & Fantom FA-76 both of which had exactly the same problem.
In the case of the XP-80 I copied all patches, performances, rhythm and system. Everything loaded up just fine and most patches and performances were fine... except for the ones using the tempo-delay function. In the case of the XV-3080 & Fantom FA-76 I was able to load up the patch and rhythm data but not the performance or system data. No biggie as I can copy the performances manually. Time-consuming, but not a problem. Once again most patches and performances were fine except for the ones using the tempo-delay function.
I'm at my wit's end. Not only is this incredibly frustrating, it's also taking up alot of my time and money with no results to show for it. Does anyone have any suggestions / info / ideas / whatever that might help me resolve this problem?
