This VST is great & brings back memories.
Can someone help me out and tell me what I need to do to get the sustain pedal working?

It depends on the vst host you are using and how it routes midi continuous controllers(#CC=) to plugins.

Sustain pedal is a regular CC message, like any other MIDI message, and is "routed" like any other message, by whatever host you're using, to the instrument you route it to. AFAIK no hosts default to filtering out CCs. (Many filter SysEx, but that's not required for damper pedal.)

The feature simply isn't there in SQ8L. Unless it's on the wrong CC# or something.

Ahh memories. My first true 'pro' synth I ever bought was the original Ensoniq ESQ-1. Loved the sound of that thing, wish I'd never sold it. Ah well.

if they make a fully editable pro version available for intel mac, I will buy it. In the mean time, I actually used to own an SQ-80 which I sold because the key action was terrible, and I will probably buy an ESQ-1 soon, since it reportedly has much better action.

Beware, they wear out but will come back with a lot of playing. I recently refurbished my friend -momo-'s ESQ-1, it used to be our main 'board back in the mid-80's but he gave it to me recently because it had dead keys. I actually had to jumper around spots on the keyboard circuit board that had corroded through, but I eventually got all the notes back to life.

Is your ESQ-1 a metal model or a later plastic case model? I've heard of corrosion problems inside and out with the metal ones, but never any problems with the plastic ones, which are the same case structure and build as the SQ-80.

Metal. "SOFTWARE VERSION 2.30" It's 20+ years old, has been treated like shit the entire time, and all that went bad were the key contacts (which are weird stretched springs and are bound to go bad... again, either clean them or just play-them-out.)

Wasn't the SQ-80 the one with the really weird key-click thing? I had an ESQ-1, then sold it to help finance my VFX-SD purchase - which is still my midi controller board to this day. A friend had one of the Ensoniq boards in between the ESQ-1 and the VFX, and it had this really nasty key click sound/feel thing going on.
